Worlds 2016: Semis Summary

In Semifinals, The City That Never Sleeps will be the backdrop for deciding the final two teams that will fight for the world championship title and the Summoner’s Cup. At this part of the Knockout Stage, only four teams remain as we head to historic Madison Square Garden for Semis on October 21-22. If you’re trying to catch up on the Worlds action or you’re new to League of Legends, here’s what you need to know about Semifinals in New York:

What is the Knockout Stage?

The 2016 World Championship is split into two parts - Group Stage and Knockout Stage. The top two teams from each group of the Group Stage move on to the Knockout Stage.

During the Knockout Stage, the tournament transitions to a Best of 5, single elimination bracket. This means moving forward that if a team loses a series then, they’re out of Worlds. The Knockout Stage includes Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals.

Who is participating at Semifinals? What’s the schedule?

The final four teams participating at Semifinals are:

October 21 at 6:00 PM ET: SK Telecom T1 (LCK) vs. ROX Tigers (LCK)

October 22 at 6:00 PM ET: Samsung Galaxy (LCK) vs. H2K (EU LCS)

How were the matchups decided for Knockout Stage?

The Knockout Stage bracket was decided live after Group Stage concluded on Sunday, October 9. The No. 1 seeds were drawn to face-off against No. 2 seeds from another group.

What’s the Semis format?

All Knockout Stage matches including Semis will be Best of 5.

Semifinals will determine the final two teams who will compete at Finals in Los Angeles for the world championship title and the Summoner’s Cup.
