This week in League of Legends features the beginning of the EU LCS Summer Playoffs with the top three teams moving on to the 2014 World Championship. Europe isn’t the only region with the World Championship on the brain as Korea’s OGN Champions Summer plays their 3rd/4th place game with an automatic qualification for Worlds at stake. While North America enjoys some time off before their playoffs begin in late August, Southeast Asia’s GPL will conclude the semifinals of GPL Summer. China’s LPL stands as the only region still in its regular season, but only two weeks remain before that season ends. Schedule The North American LCS is off this week. Stories Around the League Playoffs set - The end of week 11’s Super Week saw Cloud9 ascend back to the top of the league ahead of LMQ. Those two teams earn a bye in the NA LCS Summer Playoffs. The quarterfinals will feature Team SoloMid battling Team Dignitas while a surging Team Curse has a series against Counter Logic Gaming CLG to Bootcamp in Korea with MonteCristo - North America’s Counter Logic Gaming decided to send their main roster to bootcamp in Korea with coach Cristopher “MonteCristo” Mykles as opposed to competing in Week 11 of the NA LCS. In their most recent meeting, ROCCAT took a game off SHC during week 11, but a best-of-five series is a completely different animal.The winner will move on to face Fnatic while the loser has a chance to be pushed into the 2015 Spring Promotion Tournament. #4 SK Gaming vs #5 Millenium - Friday, August 8th - 8:00 am PDT / 5:00 pm CEST SK Gaming received a shot in the arm going into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed with a 3-1 Super Week that featured wins over Alliance and Fnatic. Unfortunately, Millenium had a miserable 0-4 week to close out the regular season. These two teams split their series 2-2 during the Summer Split, and like SHC and ROC, the loser of this series will fall dangerously close to the 2015 Spring Promotion Tournament. The winner gets to battle Alliance. Stories Around the League Regionals Begin - Alliance and Fnatic earned a first round bye in regionals thanks to their strong regular season. The other four teams that qualified for regionals have been both spectacular and abysmal in stretches. It will take consistency from any of them to grind through the mentally draining best-of-five series that they face this week. Games to Watch SK Telecom T1 S vs Samsung Galaxy White - Wednesday, July 23th - 3:00 am PDT / 12:00 pm CEST The 3rd/4th place series for OGN Champions Summer 2014 has a little extra zest for Samsung White. A victory for White guarantees at least a tie in Circuit Points with SK Telecom T1 K depending on how NLB turns out. For SK Telecom T1 S, they can play spoiler and help their sister team secure a spot at the 2014 World Championship with a win. Stories Around the League Power Rankings: Week 27 - Shifting sands in Korea and in China bring change throughout the Lolesports Power Rankings. NA continuing to beat eachother up has added intrigue to the bottom half of the top 20 as no team appears to be able to distance themselves from their compatriots. Games to Watch Edward Gaming vs StarHorn Royal Club - Friday, August 8th - 4:00 am PDT / 1:00 pm CEST StarHorn Royal Club’s 2-0 sweep of No. 1 OMG has catapulted them into third after lurking in four for the past month. Now they get an Edward Gaming team that sits at No. 2 in the standings. A sweep from either team is a tremendous step toward locking in a berth in the LPL playoffs. LGD Gaming vs Young Glory - Saturday, August 9th - 1:00 am PDT / 10:00 am CEST Young Glory had a bye week last week, but will enter this series against LGD with momentum after sweeping both second place Edward Gaming and fourth place Team WE during week 7. Another sweep from YG and they move ahead of LGD Gaming into fifth place, and out of the 2015 LPL Spring Promotion Tournament. Stories Around the League Young Glory, StarHorn Royal Club make a push - Young Glory is on the cusp of escaping the LPL’s relegation zone, and StarHorn’s late surge has them squarely in the mix for a favorable playoff seed. Despite SHRC sweeping OMG this past week, OMG managed to lock in a playoff berth with their own 2-0 sweep over LGD Gaming. EDG picks up a sister team - Edward Gaming currently sits in second place in the LPL and picked up a sister team called EDG Future. Games to Watch Logitech G Fighter vs AHQ E-Sports Club - Wednesday, August 6th - 3:00 am PDT / 12:00 pm CEST These two teams battle to see who will get to play the Taipei Assassins in the GPL Summer Finals. This match was originally supposed to be Neolution E-Sports Full Louis against AHQ E-Sports, but NFL was disqualified following the discovery that two NFL members were under 17, the minimum to be able to compete in the GPL.
