... groups at worlds weren't restricted to 1 region's team per group? Would this make the experience more enjoyable and less predictable? What are your thoughts?

That format is not just in esports. Football (real football, not american soccer) federations also use this technique in multi country events such as champion's league in order for the contests to not be teams that faced each other in the normal season (in this case summer split) so it provides more variety
What you're saying is have each region be their own group which would be a possibility although rare?
If I wanted that I'd just watch the domestic league you know?
