Cooking up combos with Kalista

Nobody wants to feed in League of Legends, but when it comes to the mouthwatering Kalista combos, there’s not much your opponents can do but dig in. The best combos require precise ingredients to pull off, and some of the most unique Kalista dishes include ingredients like Fiddlesticks, Yasuo, and Blitzcrank. On today’s menu, we’ll be looking at a recipe created and demonstrated by the community, as well as a couple from the pros, bringing a new meaning to the term ‘go ham.’

Tastes like Chicken

Recipe: The Caw-Caw Casserole One of the tricky parts about Fiddlesticks is being in just the right place to land a devastating Crowstorm, especially if your opponents are cautious. Not all fights go down in the shadowy jungle, but with Kalista, your avenues dramatically increase. Take that Fiddlesticks and allow him to spring from a whole screen away? Now that’s terrifyingly delicious. Ingredients:
  • 1 Kalista
  • 1 Fiddlesticks
  • 1 cup fear
Directions:
  1. Let simmer until level 6
  2. Once level six, raise temperature to a boil
  3. Fiddlesticks press R
  4. Kalista press R
  5. Fiddlesticks right click on desired customer
Notes: While trying to coordinate the Fiddlesticks/Kalista combo, keep in mind that any Oathsworn champion that has to channel an ability will only fly to Kalista once they’ve finished doing so. It does take a moment to unleash the Crowstorm, but don’t worry, activating Fate’s Call won’t interrupt it. The moment he’s finished, he’ll be swept up towards Kalista, dealing damage as if he were standing there himself. This combination works well as a bait, as shown by TSM mid laner Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg in the video above. Catching an overextended AD Carry in the late game is like Halloween in May, and it’s enough to throw any concern for a Crowstorm out the window. Just before they take one step too close, Fiddlesticks should channel his ultimate, then when they think the prize is theirs, spring the trap and activate Fate’s Call. The damage, coupled with Fiddlesticks’ silence and fear, is an easy clean up for a Kalista hopping around the fight.

Steel Tempest of Flavor

Recipe: Wind Wall Waffles Some foes are slippery and hard to pin down, or you’re looking for a solid way to engage teamfights. If that’s the case for you, consider throwing in a Yasuo support or taking the oath with a Yasuo mid. It’s a simple combo, both champions only need to press R, but the timing is everything. Catching opponents unawares by flanking them is your best bet, but if they’re committing to an objective and their attention is divided, go all in. Ingredients:
  • 1 Kalista
  • 1 Yasuo
  • 1 cup salt
Directions:
  1. Let simmer until level 6
  2. Once level six, raise temperature to a boil
  3. Kalista press R
  4. Yasuo press R (In quick succession)
Notes: The key to successfully landing this combo lies in the sharp eyes of the Summoners. Yasuo doesn’t always have his whirlwind charged, but if he’s Oathsworn, that’s not a problem. When teams gather to clash for an objective, engages are paramount. If they make a move to engage or steal, that’s when Kalista ults and Yasuo quickly barrels in. Stopping any number of your opponents from joining a teamfight can make it a cakewalk for your allies. What separates this combo from other wombos, is that like a Fiddlesticks, people see a Yasuo with a charged whirlwind and keep their distance. Though Kalista’s model does indicate if she’s ulted, it’s a much subtler signal, allowing you to jump on your opponent when they’ve overcommitted. Though this Summoner tested the combo against bots, it’s a clear indication that a grouped team is a dead team, resulting in a Kalista quadra kill.

Laying Siege to your Hunger

Recipe: The Ballista Buffet Sometimes your opponents have a great siege comp and you’re having a hard time breaking through their poke. If you find yourself stuck in that situation, break out the Ballista! Popularized by Zaqueri “Aphromoo” Black and Peter “Doublelift” Peng, the Ballista is chock-full of the one thing large groups of hungry Summoners want -- #LCSBigPlays. Ingredients:
  • 1 Kalista
  • 1 Blitzcrank
  • 1 cup of trust
  • 1 Lb Ham
Directions:
  1. Let simmer until level 6
  2. Once level six, raise temperature to a boil
  3. Blitzcrank press Q (Flash as desired)
  4. Kalista press R
Notes: The absolute most important part of cooking up this combo is between step 3 and 4. As Aidan "Zirene" Moon mentioned after the game, Blitzcrank pulls the enemy in, but they’re only pulled to where Blitzcrank is the moment it lands. For it to be successful, the Kalista needs to place absolute trust in the Blitzcrank by pressing R immediately to ensure that their enemies fall prey to the dazzling move. Yu "XiaoWeiXiao" Xian even tried to Flash to escape Aphromoo’s clutches, but to no avail. Pulling someone across the screen so suddenly spells certain doom. "We have a lot of practice on those two champions and knew we could be in place to combo," Aphromoo says. "I can land any hook at any time."
