The one that got away: Players who defied death

We've all been there. Barely surviving a fight and being able to walk away and tell the tale is such an adrenaline rush. But somehow, watching someone else escape is even more exciting. Let's take a look at how a few pro players around the world defied death, time and time again.

One Slippery Gragas

SKTelecom T1 vs KOO Tigers, Week 3 Game 2

Who Gets Away: Bae "Bengi" Sung-woong

The Escape: The fight starts in the red side jungle, with stealthy KOO Tigers Lee "Hojin" Ho-jin's Evelynn sneaking up on the raptors as Bengi's Gragas secures the Crimson Raptor with his smite. What Bengi doesn't know, however, is that the KOO Tigers' bot lane, Kim "PraY" Jong-in and Kang "GorillA" Beom-hyeon have joined their teammate in SKT's jungle. GorillA is able to get a hook onto poor portly Gragas and the three KOO players start to dish out what seems to be fatal damage.

Flashing away at the last minute, Bengi's Ignited by GorillA before his trusty teammate Faker pops a Heal to save his very-close-to-dead life. During this fight SKT's bot lane are able to roam down to say hello, resulting in a bunch of kills in SKT T1's favor. The kicker? Watching Bengi claim GorillA's life. Sweet, sweet revenge.

The Titan of all Titans

Team Dignitas vs Gravity Gaming, Week 3 Day 2

Who Gets Away: Michael "Bunny FuFuu" Kurylo

The Escape: Risk taking sometimes pays off; let Bunny FuFuu show you how it's done. Gravity's support and shot-caller readies himself to dive Team Dignitas' Jo "Core JJ" Yong-in and Alan "KiWiKiD" Nguyen as three of his fellow teammates approach for a flank.

Bunny FuFuu's Nautilus throws a Dredge Line (Q) into range of Core JJ's Kalista and KiWiKiD's Annie, although Annie drops Tibbers right on top of the iron giant. Fortunately for Bunny FuFuu, his teammates Jang "Keane" Lae-Young, Johnny "Altec" Ru, and Kang "Move" Min-su are all there to deal the finishing blows to DIG's bot lane, making all his efforts worth the trouble. It looks like Bunny will become the first sacrifice to the tower, but he survives the last hit with 39 HP!

Strolling away while sipping on an HP potion, Bunny's able to recall to his base after the clearly calculated tower dive.

All Mechanically Calculated

SKT T1 vs. Anarchy, Week 4 Game 3

Who Gets Away: Son "Mickey" Young-min

The Escape: Anarchy's Mickey draws aggression from SKTelecom T1's Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok in the mid lane, getting charmed by the enchanting Ahri and taking damage from her full spell rotation. Ouch. He survives Ahri's initial burst, but he's not out of the danger zone just yet! Jang "MaRin" Gyeong-hwan's Rumble lays down an Equalizer (R) that roasts him while trying to escape the safe spot of his own tower.

As he eats a few harpoons and an Orb of Deception, and even an Ignite from Faker, the death timer seems inevitable. His savior comes in the form of fellow teammate No "SnowFlower" Hoei-jong's Janna. A refreshing Monsoon (R) and one glorious health potion turns out to be just enough to save him from certain implosion. Teamwork OP.

Not a Death Sentence

Origen vs. Unicorns of Love, Week 3

Who Gets Away: Zdravets "Hylissang" Iliev Galabov

The Escape: The two supports Alfonso "Mithy" Aguirre Rodriguez and Zdravets "Hylissang" Iliev Galabov start what seems to be a small spar in the bottom lane. But unbeknownst to the bot duo of the Unicorns of Love, OG's Maurice "Amazing" Stückenschneider is just around the bend for a tower dive! With Jesper "Niels" Svenningsen initiating with his On The Hunt (R), poor Hylissang and ADC Pontus "Vardags" Dahlblom seem unlikely to survive. Part of the prophecy comes true as Vardags, playing as Kalista, gets off a Fate's Call (R) that saves his support but seals his own fate.

There's a party in the bot lane as both OG and UoL's top laners, Paul "sOAZ" Boyer and Tamás "Vizicsacsi" Kiss, both use their Teleports to join the fight. After finding Vardags, however, sOAZ and company are unable to do much more and back off. In the midst of all the chaos, Hylissang managed to cling to life. A few well-timed skills, the assistance of his top laner, and the sacrifice of his poor, beloved AD carry enabled him to prance to the safety of his fountain once more.

Third Time's the Charm

KOO Tigers vs Jin Air Green Wings, Week 4 Game 1

Who Gets Away:Yeo "TrAce" Chang-dong, Kim "PraY" Jong-in, Kim "Wisdom" Tae-wan

The Escape: A long-winded fight nets a total of three people who manage to get away! The KOO Tigers try to heist the Baron while the Jin Air Green Wings aren't looking, but they are quickly discovered! A Teleport from Song "Smeb" Kyung-ho initiates the battle, and the two teams duke it out across the jungle. Despite the disadvantage of having one man down, a beautiful Equalizer (R) from Yeo "TrAce" Chang-dong manages to chunk out the enemy. Relatively healthy, he attempts to barbeque the enemy team before having to flash away.

KOO relentlessly chase after the remaining members of Jin Air. Smeb's Maokai makes a Twisted Advance (W) to root him in place, and it seems like the Yordle will be the second casualty of this battle -- until a Scrap Shield (W) shields him from death. With TrAce barely making it out of the fight, Lee "GBM" Chang-seok on Xerath puts down an Arcanopulse (Q) that nearly takes out three members of the Tigers. An artillery of Arcane Barrages (R) rains upon PraY, Wisdom, and Lee "KurO" Seo-haeng, but fortune seems to favor them as they barely cling to life. Badly bruised and broken, the three members hightail it out of the jungle.

They'll See You Again

A bunch of close calls, but that's all they were! A combination of skill, luck, and teamwork ensured that these players would go on to impact the game.

This was pretty disappointing. Stuff like this happens all the time, nothing special (and some of them ended up dying later anyway, so they still god killed, it just looked cool for a couple of seconds
