Gogoing and OMG dominate NaJin White Shield

NaJin White Shield entered this match as heavy favorites after emerging from their group as the top seed. That was before OMG made a key change to their roster. They replaced the struggling Dada777 with Cloud -- a support who they had much more success with during the LPL season. In the end, OMG demonstrated absolute dominance and NaJin White Shield's players were exposed in key times. OMG's Gogoing was an absolute monster, leading OMG to a 3-0 thrashing of the Korean team.

Game One

The first match started off great for OMG, as a four person invade by both teams awarded them first blood. The early game was relatively even after this, but some great positional pickoffs gave OMG a lead in the mid game. Eventually, OMG found a substantial lead after a great Baron call took advantage of a hole in Shield's vision control. The game became assured after OMG counter-engaged and took Baron thereafter.

Game Two

OMG started off up huge in the second game. Early skirmishes, pickoffs, and objective and vision control put Shield on the back foot. OMG had beautiful initiations in the mid game, lead primarily by Loveling and Gogoing. The straw that broke the camel's back was a huge fight for OMG where they took out four members of Shield and their middle inhibitor.

Game Three

Shield was able to trade resources slightly better early on in the third game. But Cool's aggressive Zed play, coupled with Loveling's mastery over Watch in the jungle, ended up changing how Najin White Shield had to play in the mid game. Eventually, OMG's mechanical superiority at every position shone through as they punished Shield's lineup.

Not Who We Thought They Were

OMG came out of this match a much better team than we initially thought. The difference between Cloud and Dada777 was visible from early on in Game One, and his play lead San to having successful series. Gogoing looked like the true best top laner in the world, completely subjugating Save. In addition, everyone on OMG stepped up: Cool returned to his Worlds 2013 form, Loveling exposed Watch's weaknesses, and San became the consistent ADC his team needed. Looking ahead to the semifinals, Samsung will have a team kill while Star Horn Royal Club and OMG will play in yet another Best of 5 series. It's worth noting that while Star Horn Royal Club got the best of OMG in the Chinese Regionals, it was OMG who defeated Star Horn in two Best of 5 series in the LPL Summer Playoffs (3-2 each time). The League of Legends 2014 World Championship action resumes next weekend with Samsung White vs. Samsung Blue on October 11 at 5:00 local time / 1 AM PDT / 10 CET.

If I remember correctly, OMG pulled out of the whole 'you can buy their icon thing', citing personal reasons as to why they didn't want it sold. I have no idea what reason that was, and I'm afraid I don't have a direct source, since this was released when the icons first started being sold, so I don't know where I could find it...

Seriously, it is pretty obvious they are the strongest region, but so many people dick-ride them. Automatically giving them the victory to every single game and by extension series.

I still think SSW will win Worlds, I just hate that people consider all Korean teams to be immortal.

Actually, people underestimated OMG potential and I am one of them. Gogoing changed my mind about OMG under performing during group stage. They want to win as any other teams in Worlds.

But I must say... SSB will take the whole thing. They will perform well against SSW.

i really hope china can change the dominance of the koreans in lol, so professional games would be more fun and exciting to watch other than it's always "koreas gonna win". looking forward to see the s4 final between the two regions, and i believe whether omg or shr takes the ticket into final, they will not lose 0-3 like last year.

Well S2 was TPA win the championship, you are in NA, and korean team are better than NA teams,if you go to another Country, like China, people won't say that often.

That's not true. We Chinese also say 'koreans always win'. There is little for chinese chance to beat Korean, but there is . You dont know how happy to see omg beat njws. The chinese shoutcaster , former IG support Xiaoxiao, said this in the end of game 1" IF OMG win 1 game, I'll 'tout' them for 1 month; if they win 2 games I 'tout' them for 1year ; if they beat NJWS in this match, I 'tout' them for my hole life " Hoping you can understand my poor english....

TSM threw against SK. And even if OMG had lost to FNC they would still have the tie breaker. OMG looks like a completely different team from the group stage, otherwise they would have lost to NJWS for sure. And we can't say if they had done something it would be better. You lost, and admit it. practice more and get better. Don't find excuse for your loss.

Nothing "loser mentality" about it. Gotta love the scrub mentality... "So and so won, so lets not even acknowledge the amount of skill the other team had." For people who are fans of those teams who did in fact lose, it's great to see that their faith in the team was rewarded by a massive level up. TSM far outperformed any previous tournament they've entered, and it's great to see them attempt to make the adaptation to Korean style play. I'm both a fan of White and TSM, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing TSM play in the next seasons LCS with how well they performed this year.

Also, notice I did acknowledge the fact that TSM lost. It's fine that they lost. No tears here, because it was exciting to watch how far they came in such a short amount of time. NA seriously leveled up this time around, and if they stick to it, they may even contend for finals next year.

Honstly, I was hoping for a bit more out of TSM, but C9 showed up. It is hard to argue with the growing strength of the best of NA. However, NA as a region has a lot of work to do. No one is consistent except C9 (even LMQ proved inconsistent in the end). I like to root for my home region, but reality has to set in and admit that if NA wants to take a spot at the top of the table away from Koreans or the best Chinese teams, the whole region needs to grow, not just TSM and C9

(As a note, I think that TSM and C9 have the skill to beat the other side of the bracket, but TSM is better in best of 3s and 5s, and C9 didn't really get a chance to prove how good they were against anyone else as they got stuck with NJWS and Alliance).

Btw, you analogy is good, but in C9's case is more like, "I was one question from getting a passing grade in a pass/fail test."

I still have high hopes for TSM going into the future. The skill cap on that team is pretty insane, especially given how young Bjergsen is. Looking at how much they improved after just a few months of coaching, it's hard not to see them being an international threat next season.

C9 on the other hand, I'm not as sure about. They have what I call the Moscow Five Curse. They've got one, maybe two players that can be considered world class - the reason they're so dominant is Hai's incredible shot calling, and the synergy that those five specific players have. At the same time, however, Hai is the reason I don't think they could ever challenge truly elite teams, because he's never going to be able to match the impact that a Faker or a Dade can have.

I just don't see how C9 can change in a way that can overcome their weaknesses while maintaining the strenghts that make them the best western team.

c9's entire playstyle is simply wrong. Their mindset is to FOLLOW the meta and copy. They rote learned a strategy that worekd for them one game then tried it again 3 times. Like honestly wtf?

Their picks are all the TOP meta champions and almost nothing else.

Their only player with an ounce of individual skill is Balls who is a decent top laner but nothing special.

On the other hand, Bjergsen and Lustboy can match the Koreans blow for blow in most cases, which makes up for wild turtle's somewhat behind mechanics. BUT, Dyrus and Amazing, esp Dyrus, drag TSM down in a huge way. Dyrus has terrible champion pool, is indecisive and has wild mood swings in his play. He's basically a solo Q top laner that destroys when behind but is simply far too quiet when even a little behind.

Meteos and Sneaky are decent. Not world class, but pretty good.

I'm not certain I agree. Dyrus played a different champion in every game against Samsung White (Ryze, Mundo, Maokai, Lulu), plus Rumble and Alistar in group stages. He isn't SoaZ, sure, but six champions is pretty comfortably in the "Can't ban me out" range, so I don't see much of an issue. The only meta top laner he hasn't played in worlds is Irelia, and that's generally considered more of a EU/CH pick.

Honestly, I think Dyrus' tendency to tilt is the only real weakness you can point to. Overall, he's a very solid player, in my opinion - easily top three at his position NA. And even if you wanted to replace him, what free agent top laners are better than him? Kev1n and Zorozero are the only two you could really make a case for, but TSM isn't allowed to import any more EU players.

Agree that Amazing is underwhelming.

Also, given Lustboy's personal history, there's something amusing about the idea of him 'matching' Koreans. He's a great support in the context of North America, sure, but he was a pretty middle of the pack player when he left Blaze. Great on Nami, tepid on everyone else - his main strength is keeping overaggressive ADCs from suiciding in lane.

Last year, OMG did too good in group stage and get researched by other teams, so they lose to ROC in QF. they made conclusion which is to decide not to do their best in group stage, so that nobody can really figure out their weak points

I understand that Gogoing and Cloud don't get along very well, and they were having issues where they would make conflicting shotcalls and get into arguments in game.

Nobody thought dada7 would be a better player. Just a friendlier one.

Cloud is quite young (17 i think) and is known to sometimes lose control and flames his team, whereas everyone else on OMG is quite mature and quiet, when he flames his team his team tend not to say anything but the plays get affected, where as DADA fitted the team mentality a lot better. The team was also scared that Cloud is too young and inexperienced for worlds.

With all things considered, Gogoing said that Dada777 is a better fit for the team because the above two reasons. Lovelin personally really likes Cloud as his style of aggression matches with Lovelin's jungle style, they duo-ed quite a bit and would always doing a double roam. and San is known to be consistent but "plain" sort of ADC, i mean, marksman... and the bot synergy wasnt so good.

I don't really know why Shield was entered at the heavy favorites for this match. The only thing I could guess was that people were expecting OMG to choke again and Shield to play like they did during their 9-1 gauntlet run. It's important to remember that Shield just barely scraped it into the playoffs during OGN summer, mostly due to the help of their sister team (hence the Sword carrying Shield jokes in OGN). If Shield was able to play every game like their 9-1 run, they could easily contend for the title of world champs. But it's unrealistic to say that the 9-1 Shield is the Shield you'll get every day. Even in the group stages, they didn't look quite as dominant as they did during that gauntlet run, so it set up a perfect storm for an OMG sweep, thanks in large part to Cloud.
