Are those maple leaves falling on the Rift? Our friends to the North have waited long enough - NA LCS Summer Finals weekend is heading to Toronto, Ontario. We’re closing out the final showdowns of Summer Split at the Air Canada Centre on August 27-28.

The winner of NA Summer Finals will not only win the championship title but also earn a spot to represent North America at the 2016 World Championship. The team that has accrued the most championship points throughout the season will also qualify for Worlds as the second seed. The third seed for NA at Worlds 2016 will be determined the following week via the NA Regional Qualifier at the NA LCS Studio. Seeding for the NA Regional Qualifier will be determined by championship points so every match at NA Finals weekend matters.

Want to lock in and join us at our NA Summer Finals weekend live from Toronto? Check out the full event details below:

Finally, for a game that's supposed to have an "NA" region it actually decides to host things that aren't entirely in the states.

LandreinJun 8, 20167 votes

I don't think that is a very fair assessment of the situation. Especially for a sport that spent the last five years trying to start its appeal. It had to host events where the people are, and that meant in the US. So far there have been 12 splits including this summer? Canada will have hosted one of those 12 finals. That is the proportion you would expect if the finals were hosted according to the percentage the NA population attributable to that country. (Canada represents about 9.8% of the population of countries in the NA server).) Of course it's a bit worse if you compare all events. However most of the early years, esports didn't not have a huge fanbase and had to station where the fanbase was the largest. I'm sure it isn't an intentional diss to Canadians.

monfuciusJun 8, 20163 votes

you do raise a very valid point it's just that it isn't fair how canada is left out of a lot of events even though we still have a huge fanbase for these games

LandreinJun 9, 20162 votes

I understand that frustration. I would want events in my country too. In fact I am frustrated that the West Coast gets so many more league events than the East Coast as it is, even though I recognize that New York is less populous than California and that California is where riot is headquartered.. (Ironically, Toronto is the closest major league event to occur near me.) Also, I understand the frustration at feeling left out of the fun or overlooked. All in all, I'm happy to see the finals in Canada.

You make a good point with the percentage, but you also have to take into account passport issues. With all the problems teams run into just getting their full rosters in (case in point, Echo Fox in spring). I know things are much more relaxed for US citizens going to Canada, but there is a huge percentage of import players. There is always a long grace period before the international events to accomodate visa issues, but you want your split playoffs to have as little time between them to avoid drop off.

Welcome to Toronto Boiz, enjoy getting stuck at the 401 & QEW/Gardiner Expressway (major highways).

Also, do check out those shops in Spadina (China Town), we have some cheap cheap fruits and veggies for sale. Actually, they aren't that cheap once you do the currency conversion.

Vancouver tho

I wouldn't be surprised if vancouver gets one, if only for the irony. It's already hosted one riot after the Canucks got eliminated from the playoffs a few years ago, about time they hosted another one.

FuyuqiJun 6, 20162 votes

I'm still going all the way to Toronto for this shit though. But seriously Vancouver hosting would be fucking great.

questionmark1Jun 6, 20161 votes

So happy ive wanted to go for years but cant get to the usa

C9 SharpJun 10, 20161 votes

Hey Riot! Why don't we have Canadian-based LCS teams in NA? They're also part of our region, too. :)

YascobJun 13, 20162 votes

Visa issues because as nice as it is for a Canadian to travel to and through the US, it is not all that easy to set up the work Visas. Also the team would have to live in the US so that they aren't flying out every time they have a game. Not to mention to have a Canadian-based LCS team there would have to be someone in Canada who wants to own an LCS team, has the capital for it and either buys a spot or gets a team into and though challenger. Not saying it's impossible though. I mean there are a lot of good Canadian players on NA teams (eg. Darshan, Wildturtle, etc) and as long as there is an interested party, who knows there might end up being a Canada-based team.
