Worlds 2014 - Where's Jax?

I've been watching the 2014 Worlds VODs, mostly catching up during the week when I can, and I've yet to see my favorite champion, Jax, get picked. Or banned. Or mentioned. I'm still mid-level, never done a ranked game, so I've no idea: Is he just not viable at that level of play? It seems like there's a handful of champions who always get picked or banned, but I've still seen quite a good variety in the matches overall. So just wondering people's thoughts on why Jax hasn't shown up, and if anyone thinks he might?

Also if he has shown up and I just missed it, please let me know! I admit I haven't seen every match, especially from the groups stage, as there was just so much all at once that I had to pick and choose some teams to follow.

I do not remember seeing him at worlds.

Most picked chamipons for top are Maokai and Rumble now. But in LCS and LCS Promotions Jax was played/banned quite enough if I remember it right.

He surely is strong but maikai nad rumble just bring more into teamfight then he does, I guess. But did expect to see him there.

because ryze does the same thing and is ranged

He got nerfed and the pros gravitated towards other top laners - mostly AP tops with good team fighting ability (Maokai, Rumble, Ryze, etc...)

jax is the definition of a late game champion, and at the pro levels you're simply better off taking a late game adc or apc who can get to late game more safely and carry more safely once there. If the whole team is late game they'll get wrecked mid game, so top laners typically see mid game or early game picks to balance out. Ryze is the major exception but he is a ranged champion and hence can Lane a lot more safely than jax can (even against an early game nidalee or mid game Rumble). alistar and maokai also contribute a lot more to team fights.

Basically he's probably viable but there are too many dominant picks top Lane right now for him to show up, and the meta doesn't favor him right now.
