We’ve made a few changes to the format of the upcoming Challenger Series Qualifier (CSQ) tournament, including more teams, an expanded playoffs series, and all games will be broadcast live. We’re also rebalancing the Open Qualifier slots between servers, as well as bringing the combined total of teams in the CSQ to 12.

Format

The Summer CSQ will be a total of 12 teams split into two groups of 6 teams. Both groups will play three games per day in a single BO1 round robin tournament. The top seeded team from Group A will play #2 from Group B in a BO5, and the top seeded team from Group B will play #2 from Group A in a BO5, where the winners go through to the Challenger Series.

Group Stage

  • 6 European Regional Champions
  • 2 CS Teams (lowest placed Challenger Series teams from Spring Split)
  • 4 Open Qualifier Winners (3 from EUW / 1 from EUNE)

Final

  • #1 from Group A   vs.  #2 from Group B   (Bo5)
  • #1 from Group B   vs.  #2 from Group A   (Bo5)

European Regional Leagues

As we announced in our CS changes article, we’ve added three additional slots to the European Regional League format and will now include regional champions from France, Germany, Nordic region, Poland, Spain and UK. These 6 ERL teams will be split into Group A and B for the CSQ.

Open Qualifier Tournament

For the Summer Open Qualifiers, we are adding an extra slot to the total and restructured the servers. We will have a total of 3 teams from EUW and 1 from EUNE. This change is due to the number of eligible teams that applied from each server for the Spring CSQ as well as the number of players in EUW compared to EUNE.

Sign-ups for the Open Qualifier begin on March 30 and close April 22. You can sign up for EUW and EUNE via Battlegrounds when sign-ups go live. The minimum ranked tier is Diamond III and there is a minimum majority age requirement of 17, 3/5 players must be 17 and 2 can be aged between 16-17. More information about restrictions and how to get involved can be found on our CSOQ boards post here.

How to watch the CSQ

All games will be broadcast live on watch.lolesports.com:

  • Groups: 20-22nd, 24-25th May
  • Finals: 27th May

Stay tuned for more information on timings and which teams will be fighting for a place in the 2016 Summer Challenger Series.
