Future of SKT Huni, discussion

Summed up. Huni's best options would be:

  • To stay on SKT
  • Move to EU for G2 or FNATIC
  • Move to NA for Team EnVyUs or Team SoloMid

Explained Area: Alright here is what I have to say about Huni. He was arguably one of the best players to change the game. But, his way of playing is outdated now and even he is forced to change how he plays. SKT Huni currently Subs with SKT Untara. Untara is a great tank player who can play some of the champions Huni likes as well. Untara with out a doubt will be the sole top laner to go to worlds with SKT, with Peanut/Blank as the extra member. This leaves Huni to be almost left behind. He would have to watch his team do things without him which no one really enjoys. Huni's spot on SKT is guaranteed to be non existent if he doesn't even get one game against longzhu this weekend. Now what I believe what Huni may decide on doing. Huni has the option to either stay on SKT to mess around or venture off to another team.

In LCK there are already 5 stand out top laners. Cuvee, Untara, Smeb, Khan and MaRin. This already makes up the top 5 teams in the LCK. If Huni were to join another squad he would truthfully wind up losing.

Now if the rumoured Huni to replace G2 Expect were to happen this would lead to Huni Stomping every team. Another EU squad Huni could join would be Fnatic. He would be able to mesh easily with rekkles and jesiz because of being on post teams with them. Cons of joining EU would be the lack of pay.

Let's talk about North America now. If Huni were to come back to NA all of the Immortals fans would have a small part of them to want him back. The problem is IMT Flame. Immortals have already created such a power house of a team with Flame, AnDa, Xmithie, Pobelter, Cody Sun, Olleh and Stunt. There is no way he could be brought back. There is also the conversation of putting Huni with Reignover again. But, there would be no possible way TL would let go of RO, or lose Mickey and Piglet for the Korea Bros to reunite. Although a Huni Dardoch combo would be pretty nasty with two heavy live and die players. Dig already have an amazing top laner. C9 have two, FlyQuest is a mess and I don't think Huni would pull a Turtle to play with friends. P1 have two imports. Echo Fox have looper. CLG would never let go of Darshan unless he personally retired. This would leave two teams left. NV and TSM. I would say, the chances of Huni being picked up by either of these teams aren't slim. NV Seraph is just an all in 1v1 player who can be replaced by Huni. Huni being teamed up with LiRa would not be remotely a bad combo either. Now for TSM. if Huni were to join TSM I would think he would be used like C9 Ray. Only playing game 1's and lower rated teams. TSM have already got Rallez on their substitute roster for a superstar adc like DL so why not get someone for Hauntzer.

Huni definitely would not move to tsm and i highly doubt he would go to EU again nor do i think EU could even pay him what he'd want

When people say Flyquest is a mess and then when you realize they could make it to worlds still

Huni to LPL.

I'd love Huni back in FNC, but unless sOAZ decided to retire I don't think they'd replace him. The G2 thing seems rather plausible, but I think some LPL is gonna offer him a good amount of cash and have him be the sole Top Laner for a team and he'll be pretty happy there. I just don't want him to crash and burn ala Impact/Piglet (both ex SKT... huh)

This is a pretty stupid thread. Huni is still probably one of the Top 5 Top Laners in the world. He just needs a favourable meta. Untara will be SKT's go-to Top Lane until this happens because he can play low-income Top Lane Tanks reliably. There's nothing wrong with having dedicated subs for specific champion pools.

For me, I can only really see Huni joining an EU team and literally nothing else after this split. SKT has had a weird habit of ditching their toplaners after the end of each season (marin, duke, impact) putting him "next in line" so to speak. Him joining an NA team is also a bit awkward as unless echo fox ditches looper (which I really hope they do just so we can see a looper/mata reuniting) or unless darshan decides to retire (which again, I really hope he does just so clg can rebuild from near scratch) there aren't any good fits for him. EU makes the most sense out of all of the options as he'll not only probably get a bunch of offers from their top teams (g2 being the most likely one, with misfits also being another possibility) but will also be in a region in which he can have an easy enough time dominating, allowing him to look like he's "returned to form".

I'm not sure on the whole residence thing so take what I say with a grain of salt; Looking at the possible western teams

1 out of 10 VIT/MM/NIP/ROC - Doubtful, very doubtful

2 out of 10 TSM - While most fans will "gasm" it makes 0 sense, Hauntzer is already established himself on TSM as a carry. IMT/DIG - Both already have strong tops that the teams have built around as is. SPY - Wunder is similar to Huni's style but it doesn't look like a good fit honestly.

3 out of 10 MFS - The name kinda fits, but Alphari is decent.
UOL/H2K - similar to TSM they too have established tops CLG - I would hate for Darshan to leave but the boot does fit, it could make CLG a dominate team. C9 - Replacing Impact/Ray would it really make sense with C9? They have more problems than just top as is, with players that have been there for 2 years as is.

5 out of 10 P1 - Too many imports as is, would have to rebuild in which will most likely leave Huni with a Laker less Kobe stage. EF- Would not work with Froggen's style.

7 out of 10 NV - Can Huni play 40 mins of passive play per game ? The team is already good early, they need a closer and a tank for Lira's carry jungle style. TL - Steve will pay for his contract(Paid by steve)

Real possibilities FNC - Same as CLG they too have an ageing top laner nearing retirement, but the ol' Fnatic reunion seems too obvious.

G2 - Are the heavy favorites and it makes sense, mainly thanks to MYE for pointing it out to me.

FQ - Will be my guess for a possible Huni landing.

Why would TSM be more likely to take him than the other NA teams when they've had success with Hauntzer recently? Wouldn't the other NA teams be more willing to replace their toplaners since the last time one of these (non-Hauntzer) toplaners won an NA split was over a year ago?

As we've seen in the past (Immortals 2016 Cough Cough) even if a team is strong with a particular line-up, if they don't end up taking 1st place, anyone on the roster is "up for elimination".

Ultimately the teams that end up in 3rd - 6th place for several splits in a row with the same roster are more likely to change a single member (as we saw with CLG Dardoch) than the teams that have won for those splits.

Does TSM even have another import slot for Huni? I'm still not quite clear on the import rules and the whole exemption thing. If TSM can only have two imports playing, that means they'll either have to sit out Sven or Bjerg for Huni to play in a game, and I doubt they'll do either. Also, I think Hauntzer's playstyle suits TSM more than Huni's.

If we're looking at more realistic possibilities. For NA, he'd probably end up on NV, EF, or maybe FQ FQ could even get both him and reignover if reignover was leaving TL since they actually have both import slots. I know Echo fox already have Looper, but seeing as they've been using brandini over him, I imagine they'd be fine giving up Looper for Huni.

For Eu, I really only see G2 and maybe Misfits seeing as they have an extra slot w/o Kakao. I doubt he'd go to any of the other lower caliber teams unless he gambles on one of the new promoted teams.

I honestly think LPL is his best option if he's looking for a balance between money/skilled teammates. Since most of the top teams in NA/EU/LCK are already either stacked with other imports or have a better fitting (not better skill wise, but more fitting playstyle to the team) toplaner. He pratically has no competition in LPL, biggest problem would be communication probably.

I apologize for the longer post but, I would enjoy to share my opinion

I don't even understand why Huni, and for that matter Peanut lately, are getting so much hate by fans, and getting benched by the coach so much. 90% of the losses with Huni and/or Peanut isn't their fault at all. Half of them it's a team-comps fault, with mainly faker on champions he just doesn't seem to do much on, like Galio, Kassadin, and Le-Blanc. The other Half are or Huni getting his ass camped, with peanut/blank not doing anything in return, or SKT's bot-lane losing 2v2 decisively.

And I don't think Huni's time is over in SKT. What the play-offs has showed so far (especially against KT and Longzu today) is that Untura cannot match the best top-laners, while Huni can. He doesn't seem to be very impactful in all the play-offs games so far. and has lost his lane more often then not. Huni just needs to wide his champion pool and improve his playstyle, especially from behind. But other then that he is better then Untura.

nice name, I would hope he gets to be played in SKT for worlds instead of Untara. IMO Huni is better
