NaJin e-mFire
Region: Korea (LCK)
Roster:
Top Lane: Duke
Jungle: Watch
Mid Lane: Ggoong
AD Carry: Ohq
Support: Cain
With the structural changes to the Korean region coming in for 2015, NaJin e-mFire were meant to have the strongest roster in the world, as Sword and Shield combined to form a true Korean super team. However, the allure of foreign glory led Shield’s Baek “Save” Young-jin to leave Korea, while Sword’s Lee “Lee” Ho-jin and Lee “kurO” Seo-haeng transferred to Korean rival GE Tigers. NaJin persevered, however, as they powered to claim second in the OGN pre-season.
It should be noted that for much of the pre-season, NaJin were playing with Lee “Zefa” Jae-min, a fairly tame AD Carry by Korean standards. The moment Ohq joined the main roster, NaJin looked like a completely different team, drawing parallels to the ‘Do Dive’ Sword roster of seasons past.
This was especially on show in their first game against SK Telecom T1 in Champions Spring 2015, where NaJin picked a heavy dive composition featuring Annie, Jarvan IV, and Rumble, then proceeded to snowballed to a fast, convincing win against the pre-season champions. It was an impressive win to be sure, but in Games 2 and 3, SKT T1 demonstrated why they are still the best in Korea, banning Cain’s Annie and shutting NaJin out.
If things continue as they are, NaJin will likely remain as one of Korea’s best teams. Yet, simply being a strong team is not enough. Each member of NaJin has elected to remain in Korea in order to compete with the best, and anything short of first place is a disappointment.
We have already seen just what this new roster is capable of, and there is little doubt that a NaJin e-mFire that played every game like Game 1 against SKT T1 would be the best team in the world. Until they can consistently replicate that level of play, however, NaJin will not be able to reach the top spot, and this makes them #4 on our rankings.
