High School Esports - Suggestions

Hey. Be super gentle with me because I don't post often on the forums and I really tried to put this in the right board.

I'm a physics teacher at a high school in New Jersey. My biggest passion, however, is the educational power of video games. League of Legends is a game that requires not just mechanical skill, but also an immense amount of prediction, coordination, decision making, planning (I could go on). It's time that educators and adults recognize this and respect it.

My vision (and maybe Riot's too, eventually) is to see esports like League in high schools. I envision local schools competing and having regional championships, etc. Students would practice, there would be gaming computers at schools--the whole nine yards. I recognize that this might not happen within the next year or so, but I want to be a part of it.

My question to everyone is: what do you think I can do to help move this process along? As an educator but also an esports "coach" at a school, what steps should I take to make something like a local competition happen? We already participate in High School Star League (hsstarleague.com) which is a great tournament, but I want something that even more local. I want a high school esports league.
