The Group Stage, the first part to the 2016 World Championship, is over and done. Only 8 teams remain on the road to the Summoner’s Cup as we head into the Knockout Stage.

If you’ve watched all of Worlds so far or you’re just catching up on the action, here’s what you need to know about the upcoming Quarterfinals:

What is the Knockout Stage?

The 2016 World Championship is split into two parts - Group Stage and Knockout Stage. The top two teams from each group of the Group Stage move on to the Knockout Stage.

During the Knockout Stage, the tournament transitions to a Best of 5, single elimination bracket. This means moving forward that if a team loses a series then, they’re out of Worlds. We kick off the Knockout Stage matches with 8 of the top teams competing at Quarterfinals in Chicago.

How were the Quarterfinals matchups decided?

The Knockout Stage bracket was decided live after Group Stage concluded on Sunday, October 9. The No. 1 seeds were drawn to face-off against No. 2 seeds from another group.

What’s the Quarterfinals schedule?

Friday. October 14: SKT vs. RNG

What’s the format?

All Knockout Stage matches including Quarterfinals matches will be Best of 5.

Why does the it matter? What are they playing for?

Only 4 teams will advance to Semifinals at Madison Square Garden in New York and make it one step closer to the fight for the Summoner’s Cup.

How can I watch?

I want to come to Quarterfinals, can I still get tickets?

Tickets are sold out for Quarterfinals at the Chicago Theatre.

We will be hosting a weekend viewing parties of Quarterfinals on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 at Millennium Park. No ticket required to attend but there is limited space available on a first come, first served basis. Doors open at 4:00 PM, simulcast starts at 5:00 PM, closes when matches end. I don't get it. C9 lost just as badly those previous matches as either CLG or TSM, so why are they still around?

Well, mainly because they won their key game of the day. CLG lost the deciding game to ROX, TSM lost the deciding game to RNG, but C9 won their deciding game against IMAY.

Eah teams progression was pretty similar up to that point, that is where C9 showed up and the others did not.

You should state correctly. CLG lost their deciding game to Rox, and TSM lost to RNG, but C9 was just got carried by SKT. If FW won the game against IM or SKT, FW would go to quarterfinals.

All we can talk about group B is just FW sucks. C9 did not show their progression at week two.

Actually, there would have been a tie breaker, and no one can know which team would have gone in that case.

CLG lost the head to head vs ANX, TSM lost the head to head vs Royal, but C9 won the head to head vs IMAY. Yes all 3 teams went 3-3 in groups, but C-9 had the second best record in their group, while TSM and CLG were tied with another team that they went 0-2 against so they are out.

As much as it pains me to say this as someone who is a huge C9 fan and wants the West to do well.... SSG got freelo to the finals. C9 in the first round followed by either H2K or ANX. I think anyone from the other side of the bracket (ROX, EDG, RNG, and SKT) would easily get to the finals if they were swapped with SSG.

I think you are overestimating the other side. As a Chinese, I can respectively tell you that EDG and RNG' conditions aren't too well. EDG's top laner just naturally loses his lane and always picks Poppy into Jayce, Kennen, or Rumble. Their prouded jungler Clearlove was doing worse this year. For RNG I can only pray that Uzi gets fed. I'm not sure for the Korean teams' conditions. I do hope that EDG and RNG can make beautiful plays against ROX and SKT, but I have to accept their difference in unity and skills.

It's Okay, C9 will come up big vs SSG and I'm betting the ride that train to the finals. Impact will not let C9 fall, as long as the rest of them know to rely on him. SKT vs C9 Worlds 2016 Finals. Just watch. Impact is gonna roll SSG and the winner of H2K/ANX in semi's. GG

C9 will be lucky if they take more than a game off of Samsung Galaxy. They are one of the weakest teams in the quarterfinals.

This isn't weak NA competition like they had in Season 5 in the gauntlet. They are playing the at worst the third best team left in the tournament.

H2K are both the luckiest and unluckiest team. Either they have an easy win or they are the laughing stock for losing a BO5 against a IWC. One off games is one thing but a best of?

meh, ANX beat ROX. they are serious contenders. They were also more reliable through groups then H2K. ANX were consistent and they won or lost based on the on-the-day performance of this opponent, while H2K (and the rest of EU) were pathetic in week 1, and stepped up for week 2. H2K losing is a very real possibility and doesnt make them a laughing stock anymore then M5 were for losing to TPA

I don't get why tiebreakers were not run. If they have a 2-0 head-to-head, surely a 3-0 is inevitable? If not inevitable, then perhaps the winner of the head to head shouldn't be going.

they ARE sold out, because if RIOT find anyone selling those tickets for a higher price then they first paid for them, those sales will be shut down. Scalping isnt okay, dont advertise it

Is there by chance going to be any meet and greets by the teams in chicago? And if so are they going to only be inside the venue, or some outside as well (for those that couldnt get tickets). I only ask here as H2Ks official page told me it was up to Riot and wasnt sure yet.

All it says is photo ops inside the building. I doubt that there will be anything outside since so many people will be crowding to get inside.

I would think so. I'm on the way to Chicago right now for tonight's game. They said they'll be giving away some. But riot likes to make money so I'm sure there will be boaths for merch.
