Consistently seen the same mods, specialists, people, and heralds defending and censoring corruption

ImEzrealAsItGetz··5 votes·5,116 views

had multiple threads and known multiple people who every single time anything about corrupt forum slandering and censoring by riots own people..... these same people come for years now. literally any thread of this nature they overtake it and censor without explanation. banning anyone who cites their behavior as evidence. Its like riot is putting more effort to damage control then fixing its internal problems. been personally attacked by riots people. believe it or not i need to get this off my chest.

You're welcome to critique Riot or moderators when you abide by the board rules. Posts that don't will be removed. This subboard itself shows that we're happy to leave up criticism save when it starts breaking other board rules.

One of the main issues is that nothing seems to be done about it. Ulanopoo still has a different set of rules for each person and "specialists" like rujitra aren't actually a good source of information in their respective boards, but rather just capable of copy/pasting the exact same thing for every single thread without the ability to think for themselves.

Those 2 have been the subject of complaints for ages, but nothing changes.

Really? because ulanapoo blatantly targeted me as a show of power. like hes some riot fanboy neckbeard. he blatantly absued and broke the rules on multiple cases and banned me when i pointed out his behavior. I cant imagine why him and a few others would spend years covering up ritos faults.

So, I'd like to talk about that for a second.

What's your play here? Do you somehow think that slinging random insults is going to magically change minds? Honestly, it looks more like you think bullying works and let's be 100% clear about this: _IT CHANGES NOTHING._** Moderation will go on exactly as it has from the beginning.

  • We will build community.
  • We will hold people to the standard of treating each other with respect.
  • We will continue to encourage people to be better, kinder and more generous.

Nothing you can say here will alter those objectives in the slightest.

This, is another example of why your content may have been edited. The rest of your comment would plainly stand up to scrutiny, but this part. There is no constructive aim with this part.

Edit: Looks like Ulanopo beat me to it

Then there's Academy Kayn, an average joe poster whose name is fashioned in green.

Having looked into a large number of Ulanopo's actions, this is something that is commonly believed but not backed up by the actual data on the back end. He's simply one of our most prolific moderators, so he ends up getting an outsized number of complaints even though the actual percentage of removals people complain about is probably lower than average.

...and "specialists" aren't actually a good source of information in their respective boards, but rather just capable of copy/pasting the exact same thing for every single thread without the ability to think for themselves.

We're aware of some concerns about this, and have been discussing it internally.

I'm curious. How many of his removals would you say were unjustified or even unnecessary? To be clear, how many are done because of nitpicking at technicalities or something like that?

Im still baffled that, according to him, making a light hearted joke about someone's husband having a boyfriend logging into his LoL account is considered out of line.

I'm not reading through thousands of actions to give you a specific count. Apologies. He is not prone to nitpicking technicalities though, and he's one of the guys on the team most cautious about moderating posters he's engaged with or has personal history with. More than anyone else he passes on things he feels too involved with / too personally about.

I'm not sure I'd have personally removed that comment, but I do understand the removal. Typically making jokes (even light-hearted ones) towards frustrated players isn't really helping the discussion, and can be read as taunting.

Kanzler2 votes

That's what I mean about nitpicking though. The poster already had a handful of the usual responses directing him/her to the support page. The comment didn't detract from the solutions that had been posted.

There's another removal in a thread where the OP said "gg ez is the most offensive thing you can write. Change my mind". I 1-up'd him with "ez game ez lyfe". It was exactly what OP was asking for. According to the Poo, I wasnt being respectful to him/her?!

IIRC I saw that thread, and it was in Gameplay (I don't remember exactly, but I believe that is where it was). Besides the possibility that it was posted in the wrong section (would be better suited to Player Behavior), the "change my mind" style of posting does not usually facilitate constructive conversation. In almost every case it is a stubborn person posting the OP, and another stubborn person arguing the opposite. Once the two said people are involved, it often devolves into arguing.

Instead of saying "I am firmly grounded in my beliefs, now you have to give me a reason why I should change my belief" (aka, "change my mind"), a better conversation would be "I think X, because Y and I'd like to hear what other people think".

A "change my mind" post just implies that the OP is not truly open to changing their mind, despite what the title says.

Kanzler1 votes

I could agree to that. However, I was not the OP and his post remained, as far as I know, but mine was removed. Had I been the OP, I would fully understand if my "change my mind" post got removed.

And yet whenever there are frustrated players posting on PB, there is always some1 taunting them in some way. And they're not punished in any way. More often than not, PB regulars look more toxic than players who got banned.

Report those when you see them. PB has a lot of stuff on it, and we definitely don't get everything, but we actually get more of those than you might think.

you get almost 2nd to nothing. Even after updating rules I still constantly see passive agression on PB posts from both OP's and those who're commenting.

Then report them. Plain and simple. Posts that do not get reported are not likely to get removed.

I have a question in turn: when I'm reviewing reports, what percentage do you think I dismiss?

I dismiss at least 60% of the reports I review.

Of the posts I remove, what percentage earn a suspension?

Less than 20%. I do a lot of thread cleanups. I also remove the clutter from when people necro old threads.

Do you think I'm the strictest mod?

I'm a big fan of numbers and it turns out the answer is "Not really". Out of the three most active moderators, I am 14.52% likely to issue a suspension. The others are at 17.68% and 16.92%.

Kanzler2 votes

None of that addresses removal of posts that shouldn't be removed. No one but yourselves can see which posts you dismiss and which you remove. One can be a strict moderator, but remain a fair and consistent one.

You are neither. How about you specifically address the two examples I gave?

ModUlanopo7 votes

That's a difficult question to answer, as you're asking about content you believe shouldn't have been removed. As Djinn mentioned, I am one of the most likely to seek consensus on edge cases, so fewer of my removals or suspensions get overturned or challenged by the rest of the team. By that metric, I am one of the most reliable moderators.

If your measure is removals most likely to receive pushback from the community, I'll grant that's generally true. I'm not a GD regular, so my removals there are not well received. I'm a Herald, so my removals are generally more visible. I'm active on Discuss the Boards, so people are more inclined to argue about my actions because of my availability. I'm also one of the more outspoken of the mods, as I believe it's part of our responsibility to make our actions understandable.

Also, I'm generally the most likely to address big, public messes. As a Herald, I can speak to moderation policy. That's why I'm the person who addressed things like people calling for Daniel Z. Klein's firing, the PAX event for people identifying as women and discussions about LGBT champions. I currently hold the record for most downvotes on a single post, all for gently reminding people of the policy against calling for the firing of Rioters.

You are neither. How about you specifically address the two examples I gave?

Im still baffled that, according to him, making a light hearted joke about someone's husband having a boyfriend logging into his LoL account is considered out of line.

You might have considered it light-hearted and it's possible the OP would have received it that way as well. The reason it was removed is because it was on PB and implied the reason for the problem was the OP's husband was having an affair. That just opened up a huge can of worms and PB is supposed to be about helping people, not having fun at their expense.

There's another removal in a thread where the OP said "gg ez is the most offensive thing you can write. Change my mind". I 1-up'd him with "ez game ez lyfe". It was exactly what OP was asking for. According to the Poo, I wasnt being respectful to him/her?!

I don't remember this removal. I would need more details.

Kanzler1 votes

Player behavior wasn't really the best place for a post asking about suspicious account activity. I say that not for you to go remove her post, but to argue that PB guidelines shouldn't necessarily apply to it. That being said, for a post that already had multiple serious and correct suggestions to talk to player support, it's a bit ludicrous to assume anyone would actually think that her husband was having an affair which resulted in the account being compromised. I even said boyfriend instead of girlfriend because, statistically speaking, it would be even less likely.

I'm not sure what other detail to give you. I quoted the entirety of the OP's title, post, and my response. Given that, do you seriously think it was warranted?

Thats the thing. They literally edited or removed my perfectly normal posts and changed their own to slander me. when they saw how that would not be good for public image they removed the aggressive posts they did and lied about it when i noticed and brought it up. shortly was temp banned for providing evidence along with another poster. i cant even publicly show it now because i dont want to get banned again. exactly censorship and evasive tactics. Then riot can say oh its not our fault. lul

Just pointing this out, none of these mods, specialists, heralds, whatever, are affiliated to Riot; they aren't any more of "riots own people" than the players that used to participate in the Tribunal when it was still a thing. They are all volunteers. You can be a mod right now, so long you sit through a short program to become one.

We can sit all day to argue potential cases of the abuse or misuse of power. But that would still ultimately rest on individual mod member being the focal point, than Riot being the mastermind controlling censorship using mods as minions or whatever.

ImEzrealAsItGetz3 votes

well thats just the problem. They are either breaking protocol or being trained to censor anything riot doesnt like. Ive seen the same people for the same topics everytime for years for literally every thread i could find of that nature. so they are assigned to certain areas or they just abuse their power in cases where they can manipulate what is seen, for example i had my posts edited and a specialist changed his as well and lied. left and right ive seen abuse first hand.

If your posts got removed, it would be because mod members decided that you have breached the forum rule, either they know the rules or they think they know the rules.

It isn't them censoring for daddy Riot or whatever. They aren't Riot's employees and most people don't have a strong urge to suck up to Riot that badly even as they volunteer as a forum mod.

Also, there are just as much rule-breaking posts that are left up and posts that ain't so bad that got deleted. Mods are only human, after all; they are only human, after all; don't put the blame on them.

tbh I feel like the mods are working when they can (cause they have lives too) and as efficiently as they can. It's not really fair to point out 1 or 2 mistakes that may have been made, cause that's gonna happen no matter where you go. And, without substantial evidence, a lot of people on this post could think you are lying or you are twisting the truth to your favor. I will admit the boards has a lot of problems, but that's to be expected (It would feel weird if there weren't any problems). Not everyone's perfect my dude you can't expect that. [galio-happy]

I’ve been on this board for years so who exactly are these evil doers you speak of ?

ModCaliCoastReplay1 votes

We leave a lot of moderator criticism threads up.

As with any thread, when certain lines are crossed those threads have to come down.

Those lines include threats against us or Riot, as well as extreme bad behavior and disrespect that leads to slurs or other impermissible language.

Unfortunately due to the way anger works in human beings we get those a lot, and then those threads do have to go.

We literally are not allowed to censor anything "without explanation", either. You'll always get an explanation.

You might not feel it's valid, but we literally are not allowed to take anything down without citing the rule or rules you've broken - if that happens you've been poorly served.
