Lets talk about Nunu and Willump!

Jingerbeardman·4/28/2014, 7:20:54 PM·4 votes·1,239 views

So I want to talk about that zany yordle and his yeti pal!

First some question. I like Nunu personally and have my own opinions about him, but I want to hear what other people think as well. So here we go!

I would like to start out by asking what it is you like about Nunu?
What defines Nunu?
What don't you particularly like/enjoy about Nunu?
What are Nunu's strengths?
What are Nunu's weaknesses?
What about Nunu is satisfying to you?
When is playing Nunu not satisfying?

Answer as many of these questions as you like. If you dont think you can answer one or more of them skip them. If you would rather give a more personal non-directed answer go ahead. I want to see what the community of players and dedicated followers of Nunu think about him and hear what they have to say!

I actually think that Nunu is one of the few well balanced champions out there. His kit is fun and promotes good game play while being easy enough for newer players to play with. It offers great versatility in his item choices and lets him perform many different roles.
What I find sad, though, is that the most riskless builds and playsytles on him fall off pretty badly late game. I've had team fights where the enemies simply ignored me, because I was support Nunu, even though I had so much slows.
I'd find it nice if his Q's extra passive would get a rework therefor, maybe in a way that helps Nunu in the late-game.

Currently I wish eating a Wight gave you something, even if it was just the wraith/wolf camp buff. Something that I find very satisfying about Nunu is that he can work as a tank, Utility support, APC, a combination of those as well as an AD Bruiser. No one ever escapes the Nunu bruiser....

My favorite thing about Nunu is flash over wall then smite+Q steal a buff then W run away :D

I don't really play Nunu much, so I can't answer #2

I don't really like how useless his W seems, even though it is quite powerful

Strength: Buff control

Weakness: Fighting anything other than creeps (outside of ult)

His hit-and-run playstyle is really fun

His dueling weakness

The most satisfying thing on Nunu is hiding in a bush and hitting that perfect ult that wins the game for you.

Gameplay wise his best skill is actually his Q for counterjungling (this is why he was a competitive jungle pick) then Q got nerfed along with E, and he was never seen again.

He also used to be a competitive support, but has been outclassed by champs with too much damn utility like Thresh.

Nunu's snowballs, long channel ult, and consume really define him in my eyes.

Snowball with cdr equals slows for days. Catching an enemy team with a full channeled ult is insane. When running to another lane, taking a bit out of a jungle camp to get the buff. Can't forget his blood boil. Easy way to get assist without taking the kill, and at the same time give an ally chasing potential as well as attack speed.

Only weakness of Nunu is he only has two damage spells that can hit champions, and unless you going bruiser Nunu, your auto attacks tickle on most champions. His one damaging spell is his ultimate, which is slow, and for good reason.

Ever since Nunu has came, out I just wish he could take a bit out of a champion. The bite could do 1/10 of the damage Cho'gath does with his bite, or a fraction of the damage Volibear bite can do. I just want the option to bite my opponent and heal up. If use it on a champion, the heal is half effective. I just like my options.

But, this would most likely hurt his snowball and ultimate later on,I am still happy how Nunu is(he balance), but Nunu be able to bite champs would be a nice refresher.

(What I think, making this might cause Nunu to be played nonstop, and cause a massive Nerf or roll-back on him, simple to say, not easy to balance.)

The last changes made to Nunu were, in my opinion, very good and the direction I'd like to see Nunu go to.

Latest changes to Consume:

    Cooldown at earlier ranks reduced to 13 / 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 seconds from 17 / 15 / 13 / 11 / 9.
    Damage at earlier ranks reduced to 400 / 550 / 700 / 850 / 1000 from 500 / 625 / 750 / 875 / 1000.
    Heal at earlier ranks reduced to 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250 from 90 / 130 / 170 / 210 / 250.

Consume now grants bonuses for 120/150/180/210/240 seconds based on the type of monster consume was used on:
Golem-type monsters grant 10% increased size and maximum health.
Lizard-type monsters grant Nunu's attacks and spells additional magic damage equal to 1% of Nunu's maximum health.
Wraith or Wolf-type monsters grant 15% movement speed for 3 seconds after Nunu kills a unit.

Basically, they added gameplay and buff management to Nunu's Consume, making it much more interesting than "is Consume off cd? eat"

He has really falled out of flavor so with this discussion, I look to find ways to help both Jungle and Support Nunu without being too overbearing when strong.

Passive

Nunu's passive suffers from Lissandra syndrome: It's a boring ability, and it only serves to make one of his spells possess an excessive mana cost (Nunu E / Lissandra Q)

By buffing up Nunu's Mana Regen, and lowering E's mana cost a bit his passive could become something more interesting. Hell, every 3 auto-attacks, your next auto will stun/heavily slow the next hit enemy champion? It would give Nunu more peel, which he really needs lategame, and synergize with blood boil like his old passive did.

**Blood Boil ** While most people jungle Nunu nowadays, long ago a thing known as Nunu support existed. Now, his E poke is nothing compared to a Karma lane, and his Blood Boil isn't impactful enough.

Perhaps consider giving utility scaling to Blood Boil, so that Support Nunu can scale more into the late game

Ice Blast

This is pretty iconic as Nunu goes, and the attack speed slow is very important to shut down attack carried late game. However, this spell really falls off late-game

Along with Blood Boil, consider adding utility scaling to the slow, and perhaps the attack speed slow

Absolute Zero

While easily countered and becoming a glorified slow lategame, I feel this is iconic and shouldn't be changed.

With these proposed changes, Nunu would:

-Have more interesting gameplay, thanks to a new passive to consider and more flexible build paths with lowered mana costs

-Contribute more to the team with added utility ratios

-It wouldn't change his identity, so players wouldn't feel stripped of the current Nunu

However, since these are a net increase to Nunu's power budget, it may be necesary to compensate:

-Perhaps adding scaling to consume's damage and lowering its bases

-Lowering Blood Boil and Ice Blast's % bases to compensate for the added utility ratios.

I personally think this champion has a huge flaw to his look in the game. When you're loading you see this giant masculine yeti with a boy in the back, but in the game Nunu looks like a puppet and the yeti looks kinda fat. Overall i am just asking Riot to make Nunu look more like his champion art in the game
