A question regarding mage secondary roles.

So I happened to be admiring some new skin splash art, syndra in particular, my eye wandered over to the name plate and I see that her secondary role is "support". My first reaction was WTF... then I thought about it and could see it being done. Out of curiosity I scrolled through all the mages on the roster to see who else has the secondary of support. I was somewhat surprised at what I found, champions I couldn't even see as a support had it while ones I expected to have it didn't. What is the reasoning for giving the secondary of support to someone like syndra and not someone like ziggs?

Honestly man, I have no idea why ziggs isn't up there. With the new frost queen line he is pretty darn good support :). Another interesting secondary support is ashe. If you think about it, her passive now makes a lot more sense.

With Ziggs, I think the reason is with his kit, he can farm a lot and zone at the same time. Supports aren't exactly supposed to get a lot of farm but his Q and E allow for frequent and plentiful farming. Plus, with him being a mid laner, it's a lot easier for him to help other lanes since he can just walk a few steps and ult on to the enemy tank/ADC. Syndra, I believe it's just the amount of CC she has. Her abilities can double up for assisting kills, saving towers, saving the team, and zoning in general. Her kit easily doubles mid and support.
