[Champion Concept] Glacia, the Snowmancer

Following the release of Braum, i looked into the Lore and history of the Freiljord and fell in love with the story, however with quite a few unexplained gaps of exactly what happened, i was inspired to create a character that could fill in the void of why exactly Avarosa revolted against the watchers, how they were defeated, and what drove Lissandra to be the cold-hearted (pun not intended) killer that she is known to be today. I know the lore i've created for Glaccia alters some of the existing history, but that is a matter for Riot to decide on.

Lore: Voiced by Greyor, the eternal guardian of the Howling Abyss.

“As a child, Glaccia grew up in the tribe ruled by the ice-witch and as such, was raised to respect and honor her as a deity. One day whilst playing in the snow, she overheard some members of her clan planning a coup to take down Lissandra. Upon hearing this, she immediately ran to the ice-witch’s home, to tell her of this horrible plot. Initially, Lissandra thought this child foolishly mistaken; as no one with any sort of sanity would challenge her, and sent the child off, but after a moment decided to take precautions in the event what the child heard was true. That night the rebels attacked her stronghold, and while they broke through the walls with ease, once inside, they met a quick icy death. The next day she summoned the child and as a thank you for her service, she granted her the power to control snow, sleet and hail, and asked her to stand by her side as she set out to conquer all of the Freiljord for the watchers.

As the years went on, Glaccia traveled with Lissandra and her forces taking over various tribes within the Freiljord. Occasionally they would venture beyond Freiljord’s borders to other countries in Runeterra, and using Glaccia’s powers, would terra form it; covering it in ice and snow, so that only those of Ice-born blood could bare to live there. She was proud of her power, and even more proud of the fact the Lissandra herself considered her the second strongest being in all of the Freiljord. And then the day came, when Lissandra told Glaccia the true plan of the watchers, and what her role would be.

Horrified by what she had just been told, Glaccia knew she could not take part, but refusing the will of Lissandra and trying to stop her would surely end her death. Knowing she could not stop Lissandra alone, she set out to find Avarosa and Serylda to ask for their help. Upon meeting each of them, she was met with hostility and immediately marked for death, but she was allowed to speak to them of the watcher’s plan before they were to kill her. Glaccia told them of how Lissandra had granted her the control of snow, sleet and hail, and how she had been using her powers to transform the lands around the Freiljord into Freiljord itself. She then told them the true reason why she had been granted her power; Lissandra was told by the Watchers, that if a being with dominion of the snow held the bow that Avarosa possessed, they could fire a true ice arrow into the sky, that would then cause an eternal blizzard to encompass the planet; a storm so severe, only those of true ice-born blood, could hope to survive. She then revealed to them a weakness of the watcher’s, one they could use to defeat them, once and for all.

Avarosa, Serylda, and Glaccia together, along with their forces, headed to the domain of the watchers and Lissandra, and engaged in the battle that is now is Legend, to drive the watchers away. Glaccia with Avarosa’s bow in hand, approached Lissandra and raised it to the sky. But rather than fire into the air, she changed her position, and fired it directly below the bridge. Suddenly a massive storm flurried deep below; fiercely howling winds, a bone-chilling mist, and an endless fury of snow began swirling beneath. Then Serylda’s and Avarosa’s armies then took the watchers, and tossed them into the abyss, where they would be trapped. Furious with Glaccia for her betrayal, Lissandra channeled the power of the watchers that remained on the battlefield, and entombed Glaccia inside an enormous glacier made purely of true-ice, one that Lissandra believed she would never be able to escape from, let alone survive in. As the glacier was formed however, Anivia, about to revert to a phoenix egg waiting for her rebirth, took the last of her energy and surrounded Glaccia with it. The aura that was placed would protect her from the chill of the true-ice, keep her alive, and with passing of time, would whittle away the glacier from the inside, eventually allowing her to escape.

Centuries later, she has now awaken in what is the current Freiljord, she sees the familiar shambles of what it was in her time, and that Lissandra is still here, trying to do the same as she did before. She also sees the new leaders of the tribes, Ashe and Sejuani, each going on in their own ways to unite the Freiljord. No longer naïve of the hardships of war and leadership, Glaccia decided that now was the time for a new lineage to lead the Freiljord, and made her goal, to become the new Queen. Knowing that finding people to follow her would not be easy, she sought out a way to prove her worth, and eventually found herself, in the League of Legends.”

Glaccia, the Herald of Winter

Stats:

Health: 368 (+56 per level)

Attack Damage: 49 (2.9 per level)

Attack Speed: 0.625 (+2% per level)

Movement Speed: 330

Health Regen: 4.4 (+0.5 per level)

Armor: 14 (plus 3.7 per level)

Magic Resistance: 31

Range: 440

Role:

Primary: Mage

Secondary: Support

Abilities: Updated 7/3/14 5:30 PM EST

Passive: Icicles. Each auto attack against Champions gives Glaccia a stack of Icicles (max of 5 stacks). Once at 5 stacks, Glaccia's next ability will create an ice field around the enemy champion that will last for 4 seconds, if they remain in this ice field for longer than 2 seconds, they will be stunned for 1.5 second. While they are stunned by Icicles, they take 2.5%/5%/7.5%/10% (at levels 1/6/11/16) increased magic damage from Glaccia. Credit for this passive goes to @Riot BaconHawk

**CLARITY--In depth explanation of Icicles **

Each auto attack on any enemy champion grants one stack of Icicles (max of 5 stacks). After 5 stacks have been reached (and there would be an indicator icon above the ability bar akin to Annie's passive) the next ability cast by Glaccia, would create an AoE field (with a visual on map similar to that of Iceborn Gauntlet's effect) around the champion(s) hit. If they remain in that AoE zone for longer than 2 seconds, then they are stunned for 1.5 seconds. While they are stunned, they will take increased % damage (dependent on her champion level) from Glaccia's abilities.

Q: Avalanche. CD: 9/8/7/6/5 Mana Cost: 24/28/32/36/40 Glaccia sends an avalanche in the direction of the cursor (900 range) damaging each champion it hits dealing 10% less damage per champion (down to a minimum of 70%). Avalanche gives Glacia one stack of icicles per champion hit. Damage: 40/50/60/70/80+(75%AP).

W: Hailstorm. Recharge time (affected by CDR): 16/15/14/13/12. Time Between Casts: Static 2.5 Seconds. Mana Cost: 55/60/65/70/75 Stores up to 4 charges. After 1 second, a large chunk of hail (200 radius) strikes down at target location (600 radius) dealing 55/75/95/115/135(+50%AP) and slowing enemies affected by it by 20% for 2 seconds.

**E: Frost Funnel. ** CD: 24/22/20/18/16 Mana Cost: 80/80/80/80/80. Creates a funnel that will redirect the first enemy skill shot to come in contact with the abilities hit box, in the direction of the cursor and turn it into a friendly skill shot to damage enemy champions for its original damage value and it will travel its max distance if applicable.

Clarity: This ability would essentially "block" and incoming skill shot, and then cause Glaccia to "cast" the ability herself at no cost, this casting aspect namely applies to multi directional skill shots i.e Vel'Koz Plasma Fission, Sivir Boomerang Blade, Draaaaaaven Whirling Death. It would not affect targeted abilities i.e Caitlyn Ace in the Hole, Fiddlesticks Dark Wind etc. It would not affect target location abilities i.e Gangplank Cannon Barrage, Ziggs Mega Inferno Bomb, Miss Fortune Make it Rain etc.

R: Whiteout. CD: 120/115/110 Mana Cost: 100/100/100. Summons a blizzard at target location on the map of an 800 radius that last for 8 seconds. Inside the blizzard, vision is reduced to 675 range, have movement speed reduced by 25% and champions take 60/80/100(+25%AP) per second. Minions take max 100 damage per second. Abilities cast by Glaccia inside of Whiteout deal 25% bonus damage.

Overall, i really like everything that i have put in place here. I feel she could be a really great midlaner and support, and would have a pretty good lock as a potential meta breaking adc given the built in gap closing passive. I know you guys are really busy and have probably received well over 9000!!!!! of these suggestions by now, but if you guys see this and like it, let me know, any community feedback is great too, so let me know in the comments!

P.S. Glaccia's taunt: Ask me to build a snowman, i dare you...

Since I like cold weather (the better to stay inside and cook bacon, my dear!), I enjoyed reading this concept. I do agree with Bog Gobin's sentiment that the passive doesn't really synergize. Since it seems this champion is very aggressive (as avalanches tend to be!), the passive should augment her spells in some direct or oblique way (such as Lucian's passive, which we were talking about a bit yesterday). Perhaps she could gain stacks of Icicles over time as she freezes the Rift through her autoattacks, and using a spell with 5 stacks causes a slow field to appear around her and if enemies stay in the field for x seconds they are stunned (and if stunned, she does %x more spelldamage to them while gaining %x MR). I came up with this because Frostbite sounds a lot like Sejuani's schtick.

I'd really love to see her positioned as an anti-Annie, with her stun mechanic mirrored in Glaccia's slow field. :D

It looks like you put a decent amount of time into this.

The passive doesn't really fit the champion. The passive only synergizes with one other ability and it's her ult. It's an attack triggered ability on an ap champion. Other ap champions that attack based passives have justifications that allow them to have the passive.

Ziggs and Diana have ap scaling on their passive.(I'm not sure about diana because I don't play her. I think she does have ap scaling on the passive though)

Teemo has a attack speed buff which is okey because he has on hit damage.

Braum's passive can gain stacks through allied champions hitting his targets.

Lux doesn't really have a justification for her passive but she's lux.

The passive relies on consistantly auto attacking the same target and stacks up to 10 times. Getting 10 stacks isn't going to happen. I also noticed the rest of the abilities she has a slow on her w and ult.

I'm not going to tell you what to do. I personally think you could tweak her passive. There are a few things you could do.

You could change it so that it applies a stack of passive per damage instead of just auto attacks.

You could give it a small amount of ap scaling.

You could change it so that it is 2% per stack and capping at 5 stacks. Getting 10 stacks on 1 target probable won't happen. I think 10% max is okey but 10 stacks to get there isn't viable.

These are just possible suggestions. You do whatever you feel like doing.

Her q has a range of 900 and pierces. It lacks utility. It's not a very interactive ability. It just pokes. Nidalee also had an ability that made her annoying and she got reworked. The lowest 3 winrates are Urgot, Leblanc and Nidalee. Riot loves ruining good champions. Fact check me if you don't beleive me. Leblanc has the second lowest winrate now. This has nothing to do with your champion but it is still pretty funny. I got a bit off topic but I still have a point. The ability is uniteractive and boring.

The name of the w is hailstorm. With a name like storm I was thinking plural but I read it and it is just one. "a large chunk of hail" I think you should change the name or rework to be damage over time. Changing the name would be easier.

The E looks fun. You feel like you need more detail though. Is it priority based or is just the closest one? I also think that being able to redirect an allied skillshot would be a bad thing. They designated that zone for the skillshot for a reason. I doubt that the person playing this champion would make a positive impact by stealing an allied skill shot. Even if somebody did choose to focus on enemy skillshots only, they would still probably end up stealing allied skill shots accidently because of how they should be standing in a teamfight. The ability also only gets cooldown reduction per level. There isn't much you can do with this ability to make it better per level without being broken but that still bugs me. This isn't very important but I think this ability would have a ton of bugs. Having bugs isn't a problem because riot fixes bugs.

The ult is fine. On the other abilities you said "This ability deals 50% increased damage while cast inside of whiteout."All of the damaging abilities(not including the ult) have the statement I just quoted. Mabye you could reword the statement and move it to the ult because the ult pretty much gives all abilities 50% increased damage. Her ult says "does not affect neutral monsters." It's only 800 range. I don't think hitting neutral monsters would be too big of an issue.

I had a horrible idea. You could make the ult's cooldown go down every time she basic attacks. Kinda like shyvana.

I kinda like this champion. There were a few things that kinda bugged me. I'm sorry if this review sounds negative. I'm only pointing out potential flaws. Most of the flaws I point out are small things. The only major flaw is being able to to redirect allied abilities with her e.

I never did the math for the total damage because I didn't feel like it.

I really like this concept, but dont you think that her passive doesnt acttually chain with her other abilities, in my opinion make her passive proc. with each hit the q does on each enemy it hits, (before comments blow me up, i need to say that this is my opinion)! 2.I juts took a second look over thoose, and i think that you should make her w's slow to be her passive proc., it will be really cool to see a champion who looks just like the good old kha'zix we all know, but as for now i like your idea should check some buffs in my oppinion since shes gonna be supp as a second playable lane, but its all ok :) (please no rude coments below mine, please :D)

INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT QUESTION/I REQUIRE CLARITY: What is her AA range going to be? You have given this champ an AA-based passive so please clarify this, because it would really define her lane-bullying capacity

Edit: This isn't DotA, how can you justify decreasing cooldown AND mana cost scaling? That seems really powerful especially to have it on multiple abilities.

I like the kit but this seems overpowered in the lategame and (in my opinion) has only been balanced/tuned for the early game. Consider her level 18 playstyle/teamfighting as well (5 charges launched in 12.5 seconds in a teamfight?? Are you for serious?)

These are honest criticisms that I think need to be looked at but good work so far and I hope I don't sound too much like a dick

No I wouldn't like to play this champ.

  1. Nashor's tooth plus rylai's or frozen mallet will be abused by this champ.
  2. Shields that block skill shots have been overused recently and this one kills counterplay
  3. I don't like skills that store charges unless it is both necessary and makes sense for the champ (no it doesn't for this one).
  4. W should stun and not slow with that thematic use
  5. Q's AP ratio seems high and it'd be useless for pushing your lane.
  6. Copy's anivia's ult too much.
  7. I'd prefer an ice champ from Ionia or a Solarie Midnight Sun ice themed mage next. I've got nothing against the freljord, I just don't think they should hog all the ice magic. Maybe a piltover technology based ice mage would be cool too.
  8. Not terribly fond of the passive for this champ.

Not another supp.summoner 4 Morgana

TheDreadingDark7/4/2014, 4:44:33 PM1 votes

That sounds amazing but the passive is still less op then Braum's passive...

RESTY7/4/2014, 4:53:29 PM1 votes

But riot said that it will be a male champion after Braum

Beasly7/5/2014, 8:13:58 AM1 votes

I was thinking of this. If you build a bit of attack speed on Glaccia, her passive would be incredibly powerful.

"When you say use the darkness as an ability, do you mean the aura/color scheme/ or fog of war? For the ult, do you want the whole map to be dark or the semi-global dash? I'm not sure i understand what you meant in Edit 2. And i look forward to seeing what you come up with" -

About the edit 2 - i though you cant type anymore just as me, about the global ult ive been thinking, it would be a all over the map, while its active all enemies, visable and invisable are slowed but 25 %, 40 %, 55% for the whole duration of the ultimate, and while they are slowed, my kind of idea is that Goblyn (i like this name, kinda fits the doom things) could deal 5, 10, 15 % increased damage over his slowed enemies with his basic abilities, and his auto attacks would deal 20, 30, 40 % bonus damage, seem over powered but that only it, and its screams awesome atleast for me! hope you are kinda intrested in my idea, been thinking on it and ive though of really cool passives and stuff, will make a whole post about it, this night and if you could and have time read it and say if its needs something more special, something like nerf, and some help, just because you are awsome :) also the darkness, did you saw how doom bots are all so darky, just like they are in a small fog surrounding their bodies, just the same, and while in it he has the dark protection, increasing his armor and MR for -- sec, also his attack speed, since i have an idea for his to be and ADC! Thanks for everything ,keep up for a nice little C. Concept all over the posts about Goblyn, the Doom itself!

So 1 question, when this champ is coming?? :3

Khodexus7/7/2014, 2:40:46 AM1 votes

I've been following this for a little while and finally decided to comment. Overall I like the champion, but one thing has been bothering me. The name.

In most cases, Riot is slightly more subtle about the meaning behind their names, unless a champion has an assumed name, or something similar. A champion who was named Glacia, who then grows up to be a powerful ice themed mage, just seems a bit of a stretch.

I'm sure with a little research you could find a very fitting name that is better suited to your champion and a little more subtle, or I could offer some suggestions if you like.

Also, 'snowmancer' seems a little off too. It should be 'cryomancer' if you want to use the proper root words, or you could have it be something like, "Herald of the Last Winter" referring to the destiny she turned away from, of covering the entire world in an eternal blizzard.

Just a couple thoughts, and I hope they help with your overall concept. I'd love to see this in-game, once it's properly refined.

Gykx im here, and i would like you to see over my champion concept it should be somewhere on top of your list with champions and skins, thank you! :)

Its Moxie7/2/2014, 5:59:30 PM1 votes

love that taunt also her joke should be like "do u want to build a snowman?

Elphrihaim7/3/2014, 11:27:43 PM1 votes

This is amazing.

I also like how you have 47 votes for 'Yes', but only 24 people who don't want Heimerdinger nerfs (why would you want that, you 13 people?!) or to bring back Yorick Mori (who has been remembered by at least 10)
