I've experienced this before (and across multiple champions) and pretty convinced it's intentional, but I feel that snares initially animation-cancel any abilities currently in progress/haven't finished cast animation. And with how animation's work in this game, any animation-cancel counts as the spell being cast so your spell isn't refunded.

Nami's cast animation for ult is over the moment her staff drops, you can move then
so neither varus ult (which hit me before is tarted casting) or the morg snare (which hit me after i was done) can have done this
I always thought it was 'over' when her trident returns to the 'ready/idle' position. In this clip, it is still very much pointed at the ground. Perhaps only a matter of milliseconds in animation?

I understand what you're trying to show but I feel this example isn't isolated enough for me to make a distinction because you go right away into another animation (her w). Perhaps it would have been the same had the OP done a second instant cast (as another ability will affect prior animations) or it really is just spaghetti coding.
