So for a while now I’ve been trying to figure out how to work them, I’ve mapped them differently, tried control 1234 I’ve tried shift 1234, I’ve tried everything I can really think of. Did they change how you trigger them? I’m on a pretty old computer so maybe that has something to do with it?

Nope, they didn't change anything about the keybinding, but if the ones that are there by default (ctrl + Number) don't work, you could try setting other hotkeys. Maybe it's a ghosting issue
