@Riot Illaoi overlapping Tentacles dont do full damage

TL;DR Someone found out overlapping tentacles (active and Q) are not doing full damage with no tooltips or information on it. Verified with tests. Bug or intended with no tooltip? Tentacles after the first do 50% damage.

It was recently brought up on the Illaoi Wiki that they noticed a damage reduction for overlapping tentacles.

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Illaoi?cb=6767

a fellow wiki user did a test and posted results here https://www.reddit.com/r/Illaoi/comments/4esrt9/found_a_post_claiming_multiple_tentacles_do/d231gjx

And i did another test earlier and received the same damage reduction on overlapping tentacles (includes active tentacles and Q)

I searched around, there is no tool tip in game, the wiki edits have not mentioned it, and the champion spotlight video didn't mention anything.

Is this a bug or was this intended and why is it NOT mentioned anywhere i looked.

I made a video. however i've never recorded before and my sound wasn't wanting to be compatible so i had to type everything in the video (sorry guys!). But yea, sorry for the bad video. xD

I did tests with my friend as kindred no runes/masteries.

Illaoi AD was 60 Kindred Armor was 27 (for a 21% reduction)

Illaoi's Tentacles should deal 82 damage each as shown on the Q. Her W will do 81 damage. Totals at 163.

This means 1 tentacle and W should be 128.77 damage after armor

Kindred has 540 health at lvl 1 and should be left at 411.23 health.

<result was 414ish hp>

Now for 2 tentacles and a W. This should result in 193.55 damage after armor.

Making Kindred's HP 346.45 from 540.

<result was 380ish hp>

And finally 3 tentacles and her W which should be 258.33 damage after armor. Resulting in her HP being 281.67

<result was about 366ish hp>

I still need to test Q and an overlapping tentacle because Q summons a tentacle so it may also be affected.

I may also remake this thread to better fit the bug report guidlines now that I have video.

I will also look for a different program to record. I have one on a different computer that should work better.

Another poster on the Illaoi subreddit described the bug this way:

Ok i'm a little late to the party here but if this is true then it can be described with the following function: 25x23-n(-1+2n) What this means is that Illaoi can never deal more than 2xDamage no matter how many tentacles she hits.

That straight up sucks as Illaoi. You don't get rewarded for landing multi man ults considering how hard it is to land against good teams.

Completely agree with you there. I feel that this is the bug that forces her to be uncompetitive, however, it's a bug thats not known but felt.

When you go in to do that 1v1 with two tentacles overlapping just to die when you know you're tentacles should be doing enough damage to kill him. Then the other guy says "outplayed ez" when in reality it's just a damage bug preventing that.

It's like if Heims turrets dealt half damage when hitting the same targets.

Wow, and she does crazy enough damage even with a damage reduction in place. What kind of nutso damage would she be able to output if this didn't happen?

Well, it's a 180+160% total AD ratio for each one at lvl 18. Assuming you have 300 AD, 3 tentacles would hit for 1980 damage.

TTK Dreadnought2 votes

Yea. Instead it's 1320 without taking armor into account, which most champs have at least 20% reduction with excluding tanks.

So three tentacles are only doing around 1000 damage instead of 2000 to even the weakest champs.

No wonder I felt like I should of traded more times when looking at my tentacle damage

I see it said often around here that Illaoi isn't in a good spot right now. Maybe addressing this could push her over the edge in a good way? I dunno, I don't play her much.

Yea. it was mentioned in my other illaoi thread that, she isnt very viable on a competitive end, however she has a high ban rate simply because of her E (which is getting changes tested in 6.9 PBE). If those changes do go through and this bug is fixed, then she would probably be quite viable.

She trades traditional CC and engage for the ability to deal obsessive amounts of damage. But apparently, i've been mislead for over 120games thinking my tentacles did X damage thought it was odd i didnt trade in some situations, and find out recently that they all dont do X damage.

Yea. I'm an illaoi main with 120games as her and a 65% win rate. However, I have NEVER seen any indication or info on this.

I feel kinda cheated now knowing that I don't even get full damage from them.

It's like if an ADC gets 100% of their first shot on a champ but then every shot after that is 50%. Except you don't know about it.

i made/posted a very crude video above. lol.

bump?

TTK Dreadnought1 votes

Unless this is intended and has no information on it that I can find, I'm assuming it's a bug. Hopefully a reply occurs soon

To be honest I feel like it is intended. They just have to update the tool tip.

TTK Dreadnought2 votes

Same here. But it's quite misleading to me. I've played her 120+ games and always thought it was weird when I wouldnt kill people because you get used to your numbers.

Like you said above involving ashe, it's completely ridiculous how that can occur when illaoi is a high damage juggernaut but can't always 1v1 because there's a "hidden reduction".

Especially when she lacks traditional CC and engage.

You know, that would explain how an Ashe survived a 6-tentacle ult and four W casts when I had ~350 AD back when I first bought Illaoi. (6 tentacles + W) * 4... that's THOUSANDS of damage, but she survived.

5 VS 1 ILLAOI MORE DMG ? WFT?

this is an 8month old post. the half damage on tentacles was already talked about by a rioter and confirmed to be intended and they added a tooltip to her passive back then.
