cho auto's after casting a spell

if I AA then cast Q then AA, there is a longer delay than is supposed to happen before the second AA. I know it is not due to cast time, because if I don't AA first and just Q > AA, the behavior is as expected. and I know that it is not attack speed, because if I AA then AA the delay matches my expectation. if however, I AA > Q > AA, the delay is longer than I expect.

I've found out a little bit more about this. if I cast imediately after I auto, like as if I were stutterstepping, then I don't get the issue. but if I don't cast imediately then, I usually notice that it's as if the spell is used as the last auto to time the next one.
