Mac Client requires computer restart to open [Client]

How it happens:

1. I leave league open and close my computer for an extended time.
2. I come back and it sits on the attempting to reconnect spinner.
3. I eventually give up and hit close client.
4. I try to reopen it by clicking the application in my applications. It does not open, the icon appears as an open application, but is unresponsive.
5. I have to force quit the application because it actually prevents my computer from restarting until I do so.

What I've tried:

1. Waiting until the attempting to reconnect stops spinning... (waited over 10 minutes no luck).
2. Force quitting the application and trying to reopen from the applications menu (not the one in the tray). (no luck as well)
3. Restarting the computer. WORKS.

Thoughts:

It seems as though some resource is not in the right state for the client to start when this happens, which is not affected by the starting or stopping of the client process. Therefore I have to reset the state entirely by restarting the computer, which seems to work.

System Info:

Hardware: 2013 macbook pro with retina OS: Mac OS Mojave - 10.14.1
