Shaco's clone and ping interaction

Today I heard that if you ping Shaco and he ults, you are able to catch the original one because he will be the only targeted one (a big red circle on his head) I remember it happening a while ago but I don't know if it still happens.

I already find unfair that Shaco has to lose the buffs if he wants his R to be effective (It's not a gameplay mechanic Riot wants to support imho) Is this intended?
