Missing Leona level Shards?

I just played a game, where I received an S on Leona, but I did not receive another shard for the mastery level up... this has happened a few times, am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: I just checked my match history and it tells me that I earned XP but I didn't earn a grade? The others above and below had a grand and xp... Why is this different?

I have no idea where you got that from, it has never worked that way.
