Black Screen

When I was playing a 5 man team on aram with friends, both sides had the same problem in that we were stuck looking at a black screen. We couldnt click on anything, couldnt see anything, nor do anything other than click to log out which would have given us a time penalty as we were in the champ select screen but had no way of interacting with it. The other team had the exact same problem. Can someone explain what happened and why we were unable to interct with the game till we loaded into aram?

P.S. when we got into the load screen a few of us couldnt connect and had to quick disconnect/reconnect to get into the game. In game we called it "The true Aram. where you dont know who you're playing as or against till in game.
