[Gangplank Bug] Gankplank can lifesteal off vision wards O_o?

I was just in a game with Gangplank on the opposite team and he lifestealed for about 1/3 - 1/2 of his health off of a vision ward. Yes, A VISION WARD. I have never seen anyone lifesteal off those before, so I'm pretty sure this is a bug. And it's a really BROKEN bug. I was playing as Sona and probably had the damage to burst him down (maybe with help from Lux) given the items I had, but he killed a vision ward in the jungle, then promptly 2v1'd Lux and me after going from 1/2 health to nearly full.

Who can't lifesteal from wards is the real question.

Pretty sure anyone can lifesteal off wards, which I think it's quite ridiculous. Or does it? I forgot.

No, this wasn't anything I was aware of; I'd never seen it until this match, and I've been playing LoL for the last 3 years or so. Well, I looked around and found this post from about a year ago. Apparently the mechanic is "unintended but not truly a bug," according to CertainlyT, and it was only kept around because it made gameplay "more interesting." Of course, a lot of people on that thread are looking at the mechanic and question both its logic and its good for gameplay in general. Most are saying that they'd rather not have it, or that it makes little sense to lifesteal of wards in general. Others find it kind of comical. Whatever the case, I guess Riot is fully aware and they're okay with it...
