Reconnect bug affecting my leaver penalty?

I have been getting a bug where the game will freeze and say attempting to reconnect and I can fix this by leaving the game and reconnecting. Many of my friends are having the same problem.

My friends and I were messing around on twisted treeline and I had to afk and after the game I was suspended for 3 days due to afk. I haven't left a game since the last time I was suspended so why was I banned for 1 leave?

Im really hoping its not because I have to leave the game and reconnect every time.
