Aatrox Q+Flash inconsistent

I could care less about how "strong" Aatrox is right now, but as it stands I don't like the fact that any time I use Q+Flash and hit the sweetspot it is a complete coin toss on whether or not it will actually A) actually knock up and do the sweetspot damage or B) do damage at all. I could go back and to more of my games or replays or whatever and get more clips (considering I can probably find at least one clip in 1 in 3 games at least), but these two should suffice to say that this interaction should at least be LOOKED at.

Here the sweetspot hits and at least DOES damage, but no knock up or crit hit.

Here the sweetspot lands right on Lucian and just does zero damage despite being on my screen in game AND in the replay. This was an easy outplay kill since he didn't respect me and I blow my flash for nothing where he would have died before even having the chance to flash.
