Zilean Ult interaction and GA

Was playing Zil with the GA buff on nexus blitz, started getting 100-0'd by a Hecarim so I panic ulted even though I had GA on. I died in the next 2 seconds, so I didn't run out of Zil ult, but when I got back up my GA buff was gone too. Is this supposed to happen?
