Hey Riot, define a second in your own terms - just like you did in the game

I've seen when people claim to be able to calculate a second, but some of these dps abilities take the cake (Morganna and Garen I'm looking at you). When you say damage per second and then make it proc every arbitrary fraction of a second you are literally redefining a second. Dividing out the damage is fine, but wait you don't do that sometimes. You will let the full damage per second happen in less than a second. I'm not happy that your development team can't even calculate what a simple kindergartner can.

Do you have a specific ability you're talking about? Most DoT abilities proc every half-second (Malzahar, Morgana, Dr. Mundo, Karthus) with a few pushing it up to every second (Amumu, Shyvana, Sunfire Cape). Garen is a complicated case, since Judgement's tick rate increases with his level.

Some proc at every 2 seconds, Victor ult. Even Anivia's ult procs every second. But what really matters is that 1) the damage is labelled per second with no proc interval which is misleading to the total possible damage since some ticks don't proc due to range issues. 2) the damage is not procing with the correct amount since it uses the damage per second to calculate the damage per interval leading to rounding error or in the case of Garen bugs, the full second value every tick. Morganna pool uses the full value of dps in one tick sometimes.

DPS is a term meant to describe something deal lots of damage very fast or in a short amount of time (no matter the interval). If we go that route Marksmen that rely on their auto attacks without much down time in between each are prime examples of "DPS"

It has two meaning, one colloquial and one literal. DOT or damage over time/ damage on target is the same way. I've just used the one that makes most literal sense.
