Messages in game not working?

Whenver someone sends me a message I will type /r and then my message ( as /r will put in their name for me). After I type the message and hit ENTER, I will get an error saying that the person isnt on my friends list. I have also tried /msg "Player's Name" Message With this, I got the same error. Not sure if its a bug with anyone else, or, if maybe its just me... But its really annoying not being able to message people back. Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone know how to fix it?
