Wards not working over walls

Early game I rushed to the enemy's red and tried to place a ward on their red by clicking on the fat wall in a way that the ward would be moved to the other side, because while i placed it into a wall it would be shifted over to the nearest open side, yet it didn't even place. I stood there for 5 seconds clicking but it never placed itself. In the end the enemy team just murdered me as i stood there for 5 seconds doing nothing, and that ruined the entire game for my team.

Please check if you can place wards over walls (specifically the fat side behind purple's red but all fat walls in general). Thank you.
