Ryze E bug? Or am I not reading it right?

So I played Ryze and noticed that his E (the bouncing ball thing) says it hits up to 6 targets but I never saw it hit more than 2 before disappearing.
Has anyone else noticed this or am I not understanding his ability correctly?
