Strange visual Zoe behavior with her E

Hey guys - Zoe's E is behaving strangely, not just for me but also in youtube videos by pros playing her.

A number of times on occassion, it appears to actually *go over* the enemy champion and then deploy its trap radius just next to them, particularly when the enemy champion is hiding under their turret/next to their turret.

If I remember correctly, its supposed to activate based on the first enemy or minion or monster struck within its range, correct?

If so, its not always behaving correctly.
