Champion Select Screen goes black

So I have only had it happen a few times. Just coming back from a break so only playing against AI right now but I have had 3 games in the last while go to a completely black screen instead of champ select. I end up being prevented from joining any other games since it times out with me not having selected a champ and count as a leaver.

Is there a way to force a reload of the screen and potentially bring back the select screen? I tried force quitting and reejoining but its just not fast enough.
