Invisible Brand Passives

I was playing a game and my friend said he had to go soon so we should hurry up and win. so we went to baron, brand decided to try to stop us and ult the team, i didnt see any passive rings pop up but apparently they had stolen baron, and according to my friend several of our team had brand passive on them yet i didnt see a single one.
