can't log in to league of legends

i tried to start a game and everyone was stuck at 100% for almost an hour and then it kicked me out and said i left a game. i restarted the client and now it won't let me log in and says "Unable to connect to the authentication service. Check the server status (here). If it looks good, follow the guide (here)." And i know my connection is fine because I'm able to use the internet (im posting this right now) and everything else works fine. I guess Riot just decided i shouldn't be allowed to play their game today.
