Grayed out lock in button

I have a problem. If my memory serves me, about 75% of the time when I click on a champ in normals the lock in button is grayed out and will not allow me confirm my selection. Normally this isn't a problem.. the sheer fact that I picked a champ is enough and we continue when the countdown ends.

Tonight I selected Varus and could not click the lock in button. His picture was in the square in the player listing on the left, and yet I got kicked for not selecting a champion and then I was forced to wait 5 minutes to try and play again. That's not a big deal, but the inability to lock in sounds like a common bug from what I've heard from others.

I haven't figured out what events cause the Lock In to stay greyed out, or why it didn't register your Varus pick...

but, if the button is greyed out, you can change champions (and back again) and it will fix so you can lock in. Until they fix it, you can do that instead of waiting it out.
