Ex-Challenger Coach Giving helpful tips with my Guide to Improve Solo Q and Teams out!
Hey Summoners, So I am going to give some useful tips for League of Legends Solo q and for Teams. I understand some of you might be wondering what am I doing wrong? I seem to play well but always seem to lose matches. Maybe it's not just your teammates that needs to improve. Every player can improve on ones Micro/Macro play. Even pros look to improve, even if it's just the small things. So here are some useful tips to help one's individual skill.
I am going to start off by giving tips with each lane. Starting from top to support. I will be giving tips and examples for each lane to help give you on some insight on what I am telling you.
(Keep in mind these are just a small example of tips that I can provide, I can offer a lot more as well)
Solo Q Tips:
Here are the tips for top lane:
*Communicate with your bot lane and jungler with ganks for bot lane. Teleport to the bush behind their bot lane and have your jungler come with, making a 4 man dive, maybe get a kill or two and rotate to drag. This is a typical play you may see during your time in solo q or teams. Its very effective and its a smart play if you team is a little behind. If your team is behind in general, you want to farm and go for picks. Never go into a teamfight because if you lose, you will only get farther and farther ahead. When you are behind, ward in your jungle and when you are ahead, ward in their jungle. If you see someone go into your jungle alone, you can may a pick and push an objective. Same for their jungle. If their adc is taking red, you can converge on that adc and kill him and push an objective. Pro's use this to keep their advantage. If they allow them to farm and just play it safe till a later teamfight happens, the winning team can lose cause they allowed that window to take objectives to go down.
*If you team lacks peel for your adc, either zone their back line or peel for your adc, depending on matchups. If you see a yi, and you only have a karma support for instance, you may want to help keep your adc alive more than going into their team trying to zone their backline. If you have a support that can peel, then go try to zone their backline as much as possible.
*Communicate on how long your TP is down for. If you say nothing and they engage, you could have said, " I have no tp back off, its down for 50 seconds." If you see them try to get into a teamfight, you may want to rotate down as fast as you can.
*Dealing with splitpushers can be annoying. It might be hard to stop him entirely by yourself without some help, but if you get help, then your team has to stay back and defend. If you know you are dealing with a splitpusher, try to get help as early as possible to put him behind, that way when it comes to mid-game, you can take him on without your teams help.
Here are tips for jungle:
*Once again, Communication is huge in this role. You are the person that has to pressure lanes, ward around, setup for plays, secure dragons/barons, etc. Your job is huge and with that, comes a lot of responsibility. With that being said, the most important tip is your pathing. As a jungler, your pathing determines what can happen in the game. So for instance, you want to secure drags earlier on, so your pathing may include trying to burn top laners tp by ganking him, making him back and force that tp. So when your team contests drag, they won't have tp.
*Wards in the jungle is huge as well. Knowing where their jungler is very important to see where he might gank at. So getting a trackers knife and warding totem in the early game, can help your team farm up and making their jungler not much as a threat without those wards. There are many different junglers in the current meta that can work in many team comps. Kindred, Rek' Sai, Nidalee, Graves, Gragas and Zac are huge junglers at the moment. So learning the meta junglers is an advantage as well.
*Gank lanes that are ahead not behind. If you pressure lanes that are behind, you are allowing the lanes that are behind from their team to catchup, unless they can hold their end and continue with their lead. If you gank a lane that is ahead, you can make that lane so scary, that lane can single handily carry the game with the lead that he is in. A gank doesn't necessarily mean go balls deep when you come from the jungle and try to get kills. You can just show yourself and make them back off, that is some pressure but it helps a lot. If you know you can't secure a kill, do not dive for it. If you make their bot lane leave from a gank and have vision on their jungle, do drag if you can. With this, communicate with your top to see if him and his lane matchup has tp or not.
Here are tips for mid lane:
*Mid lane is the role where its all skill matchup. Your Yasuo against his Ori. This is the 1v1 lane that is determines by your micro/macro skill as a mid laner. Mid lane recently has been using TP or Exhaust lately against certain matchups. Like I said, depends on the matchups and who you are playing as. If you are facing a yasuo or a zed, and you are viktor, exhaust is your best option. Grab teleport if you are playing Azir, Lissandra, Ryze, Kennen and Twisted Fate. Exhaust is always an option but these 4 are the best for teleport mid lane.
*Roam when you can. Shove the lane and try to roam with the jungler if your top laner doesn't have tp or there is no window for top to tp down. Your jungler will be your best friend when it comes to roaming, ganking, giving you blue and he helps ward for you. Always talk to him when you are ready to roam. If you are behind in lane, try to farm birds for small extra gold.
*Since this is a skill matchup, know your champs very well. If you are zed facing a fizz, the only way he counters you is if he either grabs an hourglass or uses his e when you ult. Wait for a window before going all in on this guy. He may ult you and as soon as it goes off you may try to e you so you can't dodge the ult. Know your counters and know how to beat that counter.
Here are tips for Marksman:
*This is the role that I main so I can give very good tips. Your job during laning phase are farm, harass and stay alive. That is literally all you need to do. You don't engage unless you can with like varus, kalista and ashe. But if you're caiitlyn , you can harass and get free farm for quite some time. This job is very important. Because you are a huge threat to their team if you are alive long enough to just throw out waves of damage while getting support from your team to stay alive. Positioning is huge as well as kiting. Know your adcs and work on your feel for that champ. If you main caitlyn, you will feel for her range and how much she can dish out.
*When you are harassing, take in mind of the minions as well as the matchups. You take too much minion aggro, they can turn on you and can probably kill you or burn your summoners. If you don't have the greatest range like vayne, farm up till you get some items before going full aggro, unless your support can setup kills.
*If you are not getting much luck on a random support, try to get a duo partner that mains support and constantly play with that person. You will eventually feel for each other and have much more better chance of winning than just going with the random supports.
*Teamfights, your support has to keep you alive. Your team can be your shield while you throw out damage. Stay back if you can, but not too far, you need to do constant damage while they soak up damage for you.
Here are tips for Support:
*You have a lot on your hands as a support. Ward, peel, setup kills, buy support items and use them right. You have the job where you will die to keep your adc alive. During lane, try to put pressure to allow your adc to free farm or get some good harass on their bot lane.
*Know the matchups as well. If lets say you are alistar against a leona, if leona goes in with her e unto your adc, headbutt their adc to disengage the followup damage that it may occur. Zone out the damage if you can.
*If you have a low mobility adc against a really good engage team, you may need to grab janna, morgana or bard to help keep him alive in teamfights. Those are just some but they have the highest success rate.
*If you have to, die for your adc. He has to stay alive as long as possible. Keeping him alive is your top key. But always communicate with your adc with you engaging, warding or cooldowns for your spells.
These are basic tips that you may or may not know, but they go a long way. They are just the basic level tips that I can show you, but if you want full extensive coaching with deeper training, you can always hire me as your personal coach.
