Im sure everyone knows the feeling of being the prime target of ww ults or malz/skarner ults. and if u were an ad than mercurial scimitar would be a viable option for you. If youre AP though, a reg QSS in terms of stats just isnt going to cut it end game. Wouldn't it be nice to have that build option for an ap mid/jungle? Just a Quick Idea based in gold value of mercurial scimitar

mercurial scimitar 3700g (900g) 80 attack damage = 2880g 35 magic resist = 700g Total Gold Value = 3580g Mercurial Scimitar is 96.75% gold efficient

Archaic stave 3430g (630g) 120 Ability Power = 2610 35 magic resist = 700 Total Gold value = 3310g Archaic Stave is 96.5% gold efficient

UNIQUE ACTIVE – QUICKSILVER: Removes all debuffs from your champion and grants +50% movement speed for 1 second. 90 second cooldown.

Mages get Zhonyas, ADCs get QSS. That's how it works. Mages get Zhonyas because their primary power results from quick bursts of spell combos. Zhonyas protects you while your cool downs refresh. ADCs get QSS because their primary power is in their ability to shoot and move. If they can kite you, they generally stay alive due to things such as life steal. There is a reason that ADCs don't have a zhonyas and that mages don't have a QSS.

If Mages had a QSS it'd be pretty toxic. One of the strategies to counter mages is to disrupt their spell combo and how do you do that? You disable them. If they could simple cleanse the disable then what counter play do you have? It'd be too lucrative as an item. Sure they could run summoner 1 but at what cost? Do they get rid of ignite or flash? Those are both pretty powerful skills on them for their ability to unexpectedly nuke a target or get that last bit of dmg off on someone who just barely survived your nuke(very strong to win duels).

If ADCs had a Zhonyas, well it'd be useless because you couldn't gain any distance between you and your target nor could you proc your life steal or other helpful effects. The only way such a thing could prove useful is it either knocked back enemies and even then, if they made the knock back too big it'd be toxic. If they didn't make it big enough, it'd retain its uselessness. An effect such as that would also prove to be very overwhelming on any champion with a dash/jump/etc which is just about every adc.

Oh, and they generally stay away from items that provide stats that counter each other(AP/MR, AD/AR) Otherwise they become a must buy.
