Can we discuss dominion again?

There is a thread in GD, but that place is terrible and hardly any real discussion goes on there.

As many already know, a lot of dominion players have felt neglected by Riot for a long time, and want something to show that Riot cares about us. In the old thread, we were told that a ranked queue would not be a good idea since the playerbase is too small for a healthy queue. However, we were asked what kinds of things we would like to have instead, or, as I hope, for now, and to help dominion grow as a serious game mode. Many ideas were presented, but there hasn't been a Riot response about this in over 2 months.

I hope people will come in and talk about why, in some detail, they don't play dominion, or, if they do, what they would like to see in its future. Please don't say ranked, since that has already been denied, and please say more than just "I don't like it." Talk about why you don't, or what might make you like it more. As for a Riot response, I'm not asking for ranked, and I'm not making any kind of ultimatum to represent an entire community, I'm not even asking for specifics, I just want to know if anything at all is even being discussed internally to help the dominion community feel valued. Even just "We haven't forgotten you guys."

Maps team has been completely wrapped up in the SR update for a while now, but we haven't forgotten about you. As soon as things cool off a bit, I'll be devoting time to alt maps again. Looking forward to it!

I was expecting that to be the case with the VU and Worlds right during the prime of the other thread in GD, so it's nice to hear from someone. Has there been anything, even unofficial chit chat, that you could tell us so we can provide some feedback on it? It's understandable if not, but it'd be cool to be involved earlier rather than later if possible.

its now been 30 days and your response is the ONLY response on the dominion issues.

I'll post again what I posted before

I'm hoping this is just the start as the lack of ANY real talks to the community regarding Dominion has been disheartening. I'm hoping that over the next few days we get more info at least of what some of the plans are for dominion. Else should I count this in the MAJOR info that Dominion players are to have received for the next 30 days and restart my countdown? The Dominion Community felt largely neglected all of season 4 so hopefully season 5 will allow Riot to devote even a tiny bit of resources to the development of Dominion. It seems as if Riot needs to redistribute staffing to accommodate Dominion and make it a better mode else they themselves will make it a self fulfilling prophecy to fail.

So I'll restart the countdown again by saying day 30 of 60 starts now.

Also, I wonder...is there ANYONE besides MWAB that is concerned about Dominion? It seems to be a one-man effort at Riot.

I'm glad to hear someone is working to keep Dominion going! I would be interested to hear what you are up to now with regards to the mode. It is a lot of fun, but it could really benefit from tweaks to make it a little more strategically-oriented.

hello, it has been 7 months and we've only seen recycled assets and texture updates. both of those are nice, don't get me wrong, but is there anything else coming for dominion? maybe after treeline's changes?

Pretty sure Riot is deliberately trying to kill Dominion. Actually, it's pretty obvious.

Why is there an awful music bug from like 5 patches ago that's still there? Clearly nobody at Riot even plays the map at all, ever.

Why does personal score still exist? And why is it plastered all over the places that actual relevant information should be? I went to check my K/D/A from a Dom match I played the other day and couldn't because the new match history website was down and no relevant information is shown in the client, only useless personal score.

Why does the summary tab default to point captures in spectator mode? The worst part is that Riot thought this was a useful thing to display in the first place.

Why delete the community forums for a map that's already struggling? That was really dumb and spiteful, and a direct act against the mode and its community. This is hardly an adequate replacement. This thread will be gone forever, likely even tomorrow, buried under SR rework threads and shitty game mode ideas like every other Dominion thread on this worthless forum.

probably, but I'm still hoping. I love the characters and art in LoL, so I don't want to see the mode I most enjoy continue to die.

reworking, or completely removing, personal score is probably kind of needed. it makes no sense and doesn't represent how well you're doing, unless you ask low mmr dominion players. I don't think there would be a way to properly acknowledge and gauge personal contribution, so removal is likely better.

A thing people talk about a lot is how dominion (and treeline, but that at least has ranked teams) gets almost no exposure anywhere. Meanwhile, there is a highlight of a blue buff fight on the client. Even just a reminder of dominion's existence, or preferably a link to one of the already made dominion guide videos could do wonders for getting more players.

What is this Dominion you speak of? We have no such thing here on the OCE server...

But seriously though, Riot wont even put up a queue for Dominion on OCE. "There aren't enough people on the server to support any MM for it." With 3v3 up on Thursday to Sunday afternoons between 3pm and 10pm or something like that and the queues are fine. Just set up Dominion Sundays or something. ANYTHING! It is such a fun game mode. perfect for 10-20 min matches.

the only thing about that is it will only be seen by people who already care about dominion. having a thread, or multiple if about other issues like that azir bug (dunno if it's been fixed), in where others will see it could help us simply by letting people see that people do care about dominion. our own board again would be cool at some point, though.

Not to mention these boards make it extremely hard to discuss dom... the dominion forum used to be active and people had good discussions. New boards make that hard. I mean seriously sharing w/ aram? lol

I'm really hoping that we get another DominateDominion-esque tourney going, THAT was fun to watch. LCS is honestly pretty boring and I tend to stay away, but Dominion? 20 Minutes of in the dust mid-game destruction, championed by revive and every champion ever. There are very few who aren't viable there.

We should get some fellows and start a SubReddit, ffs.

If they did, they'd have to make the game mode more interesting. Dominion is kind of boring really. Maybe a smoother map with the same music. (Let's be honest here; Dominion has the best music.) I think Dominion is okay, but it's not something I prefer to play. They could either kill it off all together or make it more exciting. That's why Dominion gets no love. If Riot made improvements upon it, most people still wouldn't play. I have to agree with FDru. The will likely give a crazy kind of URF Decakill Battle Royal for some type of farewell to that particular map sooner or later.

Dom is actuallt very exciting. The problem is that most people don't know how to play it (thanks to Riot that is not interested in making tutorials) and follow the broken score system. This games the matches boring indeed. But when you are in a match where people know what to do it's excelent.

I'll talk about a Dominion from my perspective. It's a fun game mode, but it's not something I want to do all the time. One reason is I'm not the best at it. Another reason is there is no goal for me to play it. What do I have to gain from playing it? I can't improve and play ranked and earn season rewards. I can't climb a ladder to show I'm better than others. If I just want to have fun, I'll go to ARAM where there's a lot more chaos and craziness.

When my friends and I discuss Dominion, the common theme is "If they had ranked I'd play..." Dominion is a serious game mode with no serious queue. And that's the problem.

I'm a bit disappointed that "one of our biggest updates for League of Legends to date" didn't do anything for the alt maps, and apparently ignored them since the old items are still there. The changes were mostly to jungle items which are irrelevant in dominion, but i feels like the other modes aren't even an afterthought when anything happens to SR.

I just noticed that there is a tiny IP bonus for dominion matches, but it was only 2. Maybe something could be done with this to attract more players.

Why don't I play Dominion?

Well, for starters, it's FILLED with bot accounts. I know Riot said they were trying to get rid of these, but they still hide out in the dusty corners of Dominion. I played a game where it was me and four bots against another team with only two bots, and I lost hard. That's not an encouraging game to say the least.

Secondly, the people who DO play Dominion (and I'm not saying everyone) don't seem to understand basic League mechanics. A few games I've played on Dominion, people were calling mid, jungle, ect in champ select. Last I checked, Dominion is a jungle-less circle, unless I'm just blind.

To get Dominion to be popular, we first need to weed out all the bots, and teach the newer players what Dominion even is before they just queue in and think they know everything. Then I'd be tempted to throw a few more Dominion matches in here and there.

I've seen people say there are less bots now than before, but having any noticeable amount is too many still.

I think calling weird things in champ select is just people trying to be funny most of the time. but there are also a lot of people who have no idea what to do and don't care to learn because they don't see it as a serious mode worth learning, unfortunately. That's one of the big reasons why people have been asking for ranked, or at least something to help legitimize dominion.

I agree with you, and hope you'll keep playing.

it's nice to see this thread posted in again. it's unfortunate it wasn't by a rioter, but I appreciate it nonetheless...

I originally asked for a "we haven't forgotten you" from riot, which we got, but it seems they have forgotten us since then. taken from here, we were supposed to discuss some kind of reward or recognition, but it's only been the players discussing, and we can't do anything on our own. we've given ideas over the nearly a year since I posted this thread, but Riot hasn't responded to anything (unless I've missed something from another thread somewhere).

In general, assassins are much stronger than normal since fights tend to be much smaller. They can pop in, 100->0 someone in the blink of an eye and have pretty much won the fight. Since there are no wards and the few vision items have much longer CDs than assassin skills, there's not a whole lot that one can do about this. Add in that all champions hit late game no matter what (you can't gimp them early like in SR) and the pain becomes inevitable.

That's why Fizz, Rengar, Kha'Zix, LeBlanc, Zed, Talon and crew are such popular picks. Dealing huge amounts of virtually unavoidable damage wins objectives fairly easily.

Given the game mode, they tend to build all out offense too since they can be pretty sure about getting the jump on an opponent, which makes building defense largely ineffective unless you're already playing a tank.

This is actually one of the reasons why I've pitched around the idea of Riot giving Hexakill Dominion and shot and seeing what happens. An extra champion up top would help to mitigate the impact of duelists and assassins that tends to be a bit on the crazy side.

Aside from that map specific balance adjustments are always an option.

I've been sitting here for a few minutes racking my brain in an attempt to figure out why I don't play dominion much. It's honestly pretty fun, I guess I don't play because not many do. If open to suggestions perhaps giving a 4 win dominion only IP boost will get people to give it another shot and fill the queue with more serious player for a little while at least. I'm game to play some dominion with good teams on both sides. Thanks for reading and sorry if my suggestion sounds silly, I'm not trying to beg for IP boosts here, promise.

I don't think a 4 win bonus will be enough to really affect dominion in the long run, but people have been suggesting separate first win bonuses for each mode, which would encourage people to learn and play everything. More IP would be a pretty good incentive for most players, though there are the few that own everything already. I can't think of a similar reward for them, but maybe also add some icons for a certain amount of wins in each mode on top of the first win bonuses, just to have something else to go for.

All valid points. Who knows, I'm sure Riot will do something. It's hard to imagine they would let a permanent game mode be more forgotten then some of the temporary game modes

They haven't even enabled it on some other servers. I have no doubt they plan to kill off the game mode as soon as they come up with a valid reason why 1k+ employees working on single game can't support more than 1 game mode. My guess is the excuse will be that no one wants to play the game mode anymore. Ignoring the fact that Dominion being essentially unsupported for years is why interest is dropping.

That may be the sad truth of it. In reality the map could use some visual refinement and some tweaks or twists to give it an edge it just doesn't have right now. I think the main issue was Riot releasing a new game mode when they were not quite old enough and expierenced enough to pull it off while attempting to balance their first map and mode.

To say ahead of time, 6v6 isn't needed for my remake concept on Dominion to work. However, I strongly suspect that it would make the map healthier assuming that it could get the population to support it.

And replacing our two queues with Blind Draft is absolutely a good thing. Riot uses Blind Draft for maps where they don't feel like expending the effort to fine-tune the balance so players don't have to deal with the toxic crusaders. Sound familiar?

So the SR VU beta is about to end, maybe now something will happen with Crystal Scar. Maybe "as things cool off a bit" meant the end of beta.

I was disappointed seeing champion mastery not on CS, but I suppose we should hope for the in game personal score to actually reflect performance before wanting to be graded on it.

Oh, the players never went away and we never will. Riot seems to have realized this about a year ago and changed their policy from pretending that they aren't completely ignoring us to just flat out completely ignoring us.
