DISCLAIMER: This is not a "rito pls urf" post. This is meant to be a discussion about whether or not Riot should bring URF back either for a limited time, as a custom game option, or as a permanent game mode. This post presents my thoughts on why URF should make a return, but if you feel differently, please leave a comment.

I know for sure that URF was my favorite game mode, and I definitely think that Riot should bring it back, not only for the enjoyment of their players, but also as a money-making strategy for a few reasons:

  1. URF brings people who are losing interest or have quit back into the game. I personally know 3 or 4 people who rejoined just because of URF, and quit after it left. This may not seem like much, but when a few thousand people come back, that's LOTS of potential profit for Riot.

  2. About making a profit, URF has a different meta than normal Rift games, so people who want to play only URF might not own certain champions or skins that they want. This should lead to Riot making a profit from RP sales.

  3. It's a great way to blow of steam after a long day, have some fun with friends, and overall, it's a great experience.

Also, some of the main arguments against URF coming back do pose quite strong arguments, so here are some responses:

Critique 1: URF was fun at first, but after people started to take it too seriously, it started to become toxic and less fun for me. People like to win, especially when their only other option is to lose, so that can cause issues sometimes. However, even without URF, toxicity is still a problem, and you can't expect URF to magically make ragers/flamers disappear.

Critique 2: Even after Riot banned certain champions, people continued to reinvent the meta with new picks. I thought this was supposed to be a fun mode... People like to win, especially when their only other option is to lose, so that can cause issues sometimes. However, in all game modes there is a meta: it's a fact that some champions will be stronger than others. It is impossible to make two different champions with different abilities while keeping them equal in power.

Critique 3: I would like URF to come back, but if it was permanent, it would get boring after a while. Even if Riot brings back URF forever, regular Rift doesn't disappear. You can always take a break and go play normal games, or take a break from League. If you feel this way, vote on the poll.

There was a 10000+ upvote post to bring back URF and Riot being the stupid company they are decided to not only ignore any calls for URF staying but deleted the thread as well.

We just gotta hope this game crashes hard and loses a pile of players so Riot starts listening to the community again.

PS URF was ruined when Riot decided to "balance" it by taking away revive.

I'd love for it to be permanent (who wouldn't?) but I doubt that Riot would make it permanent :/

You have to look at the worst possibility, especially when it's likely to happen. If it were permanent, it wouldn't stay a "fun" mode, people would tryhard all the time and try to find the most OP champs. I mean, look at any of the featured modes, it always happens, just as it happens in every mode. There won't be a "just for fun" mode until they take out Victory and Defeat from it. I only ever play featured modes enough for the rewards, if that. Once people start creating a meta and taking it seriously, they lose the fun. So if URF were to come back, I hope it's only temporary. Though, to be honest, I wouldn't cry if it never comes back.

ofc i want urf back so you can relax after some ranked games, and in my opinion it should be permanent, maybe remove domination for urf, cuz i dont see many people playing domination. i have to wait 15-20 min IF i want to play which is rare. But that's just my opinion.

Urf was very fun in fact it was so fun that normal league of legends felt very boring afterwards to the point where I took a break from it. If it does come back they need to include a global healing nerf like the one in aram.

I think if its permanent, it would be less fun trust me! So they shoud bring it for while (about 1-2 months) and then its more fun:D {{summoner:2}}

URF is the only thing that can get me to play on the SR map. It provides a reasonable pacing to the game, and promotes meaningful interactions with the enemy team. None of that Farmville PvE grind that makes me hate the idea of laning beyond all else. I play PvP games to actually fight AGAINST other players.

Until then, I'm sticking to Dominion and ARAM.

Guys, The game will be back for Aprils fool (it most likely will become a holiday theme) Just like you get the harrowing or slowdown. When a game has good feedback it returns (One for all returned with the 10 champs being the same which didn't have the same impact).

it will most likely not get permanent due to the over popularity that will outshine normal paces games which will hit the finances. (No more LCS which is a big chunk of cash for riot).

Have some patience, it's February already (the Chinese new year and valentine themes are coming) Aprill is close enough.

oooh if it does the soraka heal? will they tune it or disable her altoghether for that game mode>
