The Featured Gamemode We All Desire....

As shown in a previous RIOT post, there have been tons of featured game modes. Some of them I liked, some I did not, and some were just a small novelty thing. But there is one game mode that can do things the others can't....

Close the shop.

No seriously, here me out:

  1. This takes away the whole argument of many champs being overpowered due to items. Obviously some champions would get a bit hurt, but RIOT could actually use this data to see what champions need help when they aren't purchasing items. Some champs would just be out of luck though (read "Yasuo and others")
  2. This would bring the most out of champions kits. Did Morgana stun you? Sucks to not have tenacity. That Caitlin and Quinn passive? Super strong now when others cant get crit. Full combo just hit you? No Zhonya's for you. It would be fun to see what types of games would be made from this.
  3. Watching champions get late game at level 18 would be WAY different. No more two shots... or are there? Who knows!

That's just a few of the things I would like to see, but just imagine how neat it would be. No one buying items. You could even make a little "Shop is Closed" sign by the stores. I would just expect to see vastly different games, laning phases, and objective control. Please RIOT, see this one through the next time you're thinking about doing a featured gamemode. Best of all? It requires maybe one push of a button to disable the store (prevent the click or shortcut) and boom, featured game mode. You can use the data for balancing purposes, and we can see who truly shines with base stats.

I'd say just leave in the trinkets/wards, since they don't really buff a champ at all, they just provide vision.

yeah this would suck. the entire first half or so of play on SR focuses around getting more gold than the other team. Last hitting is no longer a thing. Jungling is no longer a thing. Killing people doesn't matter half as much. Nothing matters except getting damage on turrets. And tanks can't tower dive with no armor. It would just be a siege war. Push as hard as you can and poke that turret.

No, for a few reasons.

  1. First and foremost, you are handing the game to Supports and Tanks. Supports, because their entire kit is based around not having gold, and being able to support and assist their team without actually requiring items. And both supports And tanks tend to have high base damage because they generally do not build much in the way of AD/AP.

  2. You eliminate every single mage in the game, since you can no longer gain any Mana or Mana Regen. Energy or CD champions only.

  3. Baron/Dragon become unkillable

  4. Towers are also a huge pain in the ass

  5. Almost no momentum, since there is no gold advantage. There would be a slight level advantage but games would drag on due to taking longer to take objectives so its that much harder to push to win.

The worst part about this would be stacking champions. Veigar, Nasus, Sion.... They would scale SO HARD if items weren't a thing.
