About ARAM

I know that ARAM is not meant to be a serious gamemode and it is supposed to be fun, but it is largely based on the champ select - if you end up with a team of 5 ranged champions against a team of 4 melee and a ranged then the former team will be able to consistently push the melee champions back and most likely win due to early kills and xp denial. I was really frustrated by this, so much so that I rarely ever play ARAM, but I think that there is a way to fix it slightly. In Ascension, kills gave you no gold or xp and instead the gold generation was increased and so was the passive xp generation. I think that this would work well in ARAM because a champion like Fiora can get back into the game even after being 0/9/0. It may be just a lack of knowledge of how to play ARAM on my part and my teams' but in my opinion this change would make a losing ARAM game a lot less frustrating and would shift it back to being a fun gamemode. (Idk if this is the right place for this but I'll move it if I need to :)

Yes, that is what it is. And thinking a team of [4 melee 1 ranged] can't beat a team of [5 ranged] is evidence of that. Oh sure, the ranged team has the advantage pre-6, but late game is when melee champions are at their best, and ranged champions fall off. How to handle the pre-6 phase and survive to "late game" and turn the match around in your team's favor is all part of learning how ARAM works, particularly if you want to advance your ARAM MMR (which is an actual thing, and don't let any ARAM scrublar tell you otherwise).

If you want a guide to stepping up your ARAM game, read this thread in the ARAM subforum.

I would have to agree with the OP, ARAM needs some serious re-work. Yes it is possible to win late game if you play very carefully and huddle under your turrets (usually watching them crumble under the fire of 3 adcs and 2 mages), but it should not be so grossly one-sided. Having to play so overly cautiously while the other team pretty much gets to do what they want without consequence is not only unfair but no fun either. I cannot count how many losses I've been a part of simply because of lopsided teams, some of them ending within the first 10 minutes or less. Part of the solution is to make every champ included in the "random" selection process to prevent players using special accounts loaded with champs that are ARAM gods. The more important piece of the puzzle in my opinion is to somehow balance the type of champions on each team (1 tank, 1 support, 1 adc, 1 mage, and one random extra) so that this way the teams at least start off balanced, maybe with one having a small advantage due to the outcome of the one random role. This is not by any means a perfect solution and I am sure it will be difficult to implement, but something has to be done about it. Sure it can be fun to be on the team will all damage versus the tank/support team, but being on the receiving end, especially game after game, really sucks.

I've been playing a lot of ARAM lately and have given this some considerable thought. I really don't know what could be done to fix the issues but you're right 9 of every 10 games seem to be heavily one sided. That's supposed to be the point of an All Random game I suppose but when you're on the third loss in a row it can be extremely frustrating. Especially considering the fact that so few games feel like an even match up. Out of 150+ games in the past month I can remember clearly every single game that was evenly matched.

The only idea I could come up with would be allowing players to pick a certain amount of champs to be their dedicated ARAM pool, so as to avoid situations where you're constantly picking up champs that aren't viable on that map.

All I know for certain going in to any ARAM game is if I get Heimer or Sona it's going to be a win, unless the rest of my team is completely useless.
