Questions about the new game mode

Hopefully a member of riot could chime in and shed some light on my questions (But that ain't happening)

About these new items are they permanent? Or just for the new game mode?
I know you can upgrade the Brawlers but how many krakens are used per upgrade
After you hire a brawler, does it act as a pet that follows you?
can you kill a brawler?
Can you only choose one upgrade path?

Honestly, I find this game mode to be very interesting and looks like fun. The previous game mode was kinda dull, having six players is cool but not much difference besides more combo potential. This one however in **my OPINION ** seems fresh and new.

As for the items... I think Riot uses this as some massive experiment for new and weird item mechanics.

Hard cc bound to an item, Teleport on an item, a location based buff (river staff), DISGUISING YOURSELF AS AN ALLIED CHAMPION (that's kinda one of the most experimental things I think), some kind of AP-Phage, an item that shields and rewards you with gold for it, direct damage transfer from allies to yourself,... and a lot of other stuff.

And if this testing goes well a lot of that might find it's way into the normal rift I think...

Most of those answers can be found on the PBE announcement and your preferred news site.

Currently only for the new Featured Mode. There's speculation that Riot's using the mode as testing for potential new items.
5-20, depending on upgrade level.
Brawlers replace a regular minion and spawn in every lane.
They're essentially larger minions, so probably.
Presumably yes, since they replace lane minions. Not sure if you can change your choice though.
