RANKED Provisionals; Gold Rank Quest, Is this a pipe dream?

So I have been playing league since March of this year. I have around 3-4 hundred PVP games under my belt, and wanted to try to get the skin that is awarded to those that rank Gold. So I dived into my provisional games, thinking that I wasn't too bad.

Let me just say, the first two games were eye openers.item 2043 I finished 0-8-7 and 0-8-10, I was not support..lolMissFortune Ahri

I do want to get the skin, but I think I over estimated my skill level. I thought that I was a t least a silver/gold class player, but know I think I may be a bronze level player.item 3151 item 3070

I've been doing some homework to get better, I have been playing with more skilled players to get used to the game speed, but I am not sure how much that is helping. I also have been tinkering around with my build paths. I feel like higher level elos are building differently. I have definitely seen more armor builds and half (1 tier) items later in game.

So I'm asking for some tips, and advice on how to navigate through this provisional period. Also how should I approach build pathing. Thanks.

Firstly, you can still place high silver/low gold even if you do poorly in your provisionals if you have a high mmr from your normal games. Secondly, vision and team coordination are usually higher priority than in normal games. This means you should get upgraded yellow trinket at lvl 9 (if you are top, mid or jungle) or rush sighstone if you are support. You should also buy the occasional ward before lvl 9, and everyone should buy 1-2 pinks throughout the game including adc. Having pink wards is much more important if they have a stealth champion on the enemy team (like akali, vayne, shaco, rengar, evelyn). Make sure you are in position for dragon everytime it respawns unless you are the top laner and you have teleport available. Let your jungler know if the enemy laner burns flash so they can gank before it returns (and try to gank within 4 minutes if you are the jungler).

Well, i can help you a bit, i started playing rankeds in season 3, and tried to get better each season, i ust reached platinum yay! but i started just like you, with o clue and stuff. We could stay here to talk for hours i'll just give you quick tips:

  1. Realize what your team stranghts and weaknesses are, pley around those
  2. Try to always keep track of enemy jungler, and try to know in anticipation what he will do
  3. Your build bath mostly depends on what the enemy team build, you always have to build against what your opponents are building (there is no 1 path you have to be flexible)
  4. Play around objectives more then kills
  5. Always keep the vision up, but not in stupid places. Put it where it matters.
