I was wondering if I can get demoted back to Silver 1 since I already reached Gold V yesterday. I'm not sure because the MMR system seems to change every year and I'm anxious as to whether I could get demoted or if I'll stay gold.
Yes you can. If your MMR drops too low, you'll get demoted. I'm not sure how low it has to get, but you'll get a warning before you actually get demoted letting you know that you're close.
If your LP wins start to become really low (5-7), then you should expect a demotion if you don't start winning.

Official word is that demotions happen when you reach MMR roughly equivalent to a full tier below (e.g. ranking is Gold5, MMR is Silver5). In practice, if you're consistently playing with people 3-4 divisions below you (e.g. Gold5 playing with Silver3/4), you should probably expect a demotion soon.
