An Idea About Ranked
This is the first year that I have done Fantasy LCS, and I have to say; its a lot of fun! However it gave me this crazy idea, an idea that I'm sure has been presented here before. But it gave me this crazy idea nonetheless. And I haven't really seen anything like it in the brief look over of the boards, so I just thought I would place it here.
One of the weird breaks in the idea of ranked is that if you playing in solo/duo queue, though you are trying to get points for yourself, your points are only dependant on the team that you are playing with. I'm not saying this from the "MY TEAM SUCKS AND IS SCREWING MY SOLO QUE RANKED POINTS" perspective. In fact, I am really anti-toxic when it comes to playing this game. (Some people just haven't learned yet. Sorry if they aren't at your level. But you were there once, too.)
But I digress.
The point is that your ranked points only come to you as good as the worst player on your team... technically. Your personal points have nothing to do with your own personal play.
So, for example, I just watched a friend play in a ranked match. He played Urgot ADC and was off to a slow start, but at one point he was carrying his team with upwards to a 7 killstreak. He was doing well.
But his team lost. So his good game gave him nothing… and this is SOLO QUEUE.
What I propose is this: Add a fantasy-like point system to Ranked matches. You get points for the amount of kills and assists you earn, and lose points for the deaths, just like in Fantasy LCS.
“But then people are just going to be playing for their own stats and neglect teamplay.”
Heres the catch. I propose 1 of 2 (or the combination) options.
Option 1: When there is a loss, you only gain half the points that you worked for. This assures that, if you did in fact do well, you still receive part of what you earned. I mean… its not all of it… but its better than nothing.
Or
Option 2: They earn this bonus as a token. For example, we had to play in un-ranked matches in order to get to ranked. Win 5 unranked matches (doesn’t have to be consecutive) and you will earn a token (Sort of like the dice in ARAM). This token makes it so that you you can earn points off of a loss. Had a great match and don’t want to walk away with 0 points from a loss? You can get half! And besides, it adds to the things that you can earn from playing in unranked matches.
And to further discourage people that only worry about their own stats over the teamwork, this could be something that disciplinary measures apply to. If you are chat-banned for being toxic or have Leavebuster on your case, then you are penalized (n) amount of wins. (2 wins don’t count. So, after 2 wins, you have to earn the 5 required to get a coin.)
And if you didn’t do all that well in the match, you still wouldn’t really be getting the points, because you wouldn’t be getting fantasy points anyway. After all, only kills, assists, and farm give you points in Fantasy LCS. So if you died excessively, you wouldn’t be earning points either way. So there is no pro or penalty there!
I feel like this would be a safe way for those solo/duo queuers to be able to get the ranked points that they have worked for, even if they have lost a match. Of course, this is open for discussion.
I would like to add that I haven’t really played much Ranked. However, this is a common complaint that I have heard from people that worked really hard, but through various reasons lost the match despite good stats.
I’d also like to add that this isn’t a punishment to players that perhaps aren’t as good at the game as others. If the point of ranked is to play your best and earn points off of your accomplishments, then this concept still stands.
And furthermore, if you are skilled enough to not need these tokens, then you don’t have to play unranked to get them. You just won’t get the points when you lose. Either way, if you are skilled enough to not need these tokens, then they should be easy enough to earn.
I just think that his plan is safe overall. Any thoughts?
PS: And please Riot. FFS. Don't pull an EA Games and make this a feature to buy.
