Reverse Draft Pick: New Gamemode Idea

EDIT: It's gonna be a thing :D. New featured gamemode is called 'Nemesis Draft' and it's happening XD

Alright so this isn't entirely my idea since I remember it from a discussion but can't remember where. I felt the idea was cool though and deserved to be revisited.

So basically in this mode, you pick the enemy's team and they pick yours. That's the TL;DR.

Specifically things would work like this. The champ select screen is like draft pick, though each player is presented with the option to ban two champions from their champion pool and theirs only. These bans would be unseeable by anyone but the summoner banning them. After this, players choose champions for the summoner opposite them on the screen, back and forth like in draft pick, choosing from that summoner's champion pool. The enemy team then picks your champions and the two teams go back and forth down the line until everyone has a champ. After that there's a bit extra time to swap champions between players and adjust runes or masteries before the game starts. Then you need to make it work to gain victory; using teamwork to get around the fact that your teamcomp most likely is as poor as the enemy's.

The idea is you choose who you're going to fight and try to gain a tactical advantage while the enemy does the same, creating some interesting team comps and perhaps resurfacing dormant champions.

Thoughts and ideas are appreciated, thx for reading ;)

OTHER NOTES: Just to be clear this would be played on summoners rift. This would give teams far more strategic potential instead of just making it a new ARAM mode. Dragon, Baron, jungle buffs, split pushing or teamfight strategies, all letting each team have more chances to out play the other.

I like the idea that you would try to have a tactical advantage in lane match ups, even though I'm just gonna try to pick the worst champs. On the bright side, Urgot would be played much more often, I'm sure he'd appreciate it. I still think it'd be cool, but every player should have 3 personal bans from their own champion pool. For example, I'm quite comfortable with all the champions I own except maybe Hecarim , so I could ban him so that my enemy team counterpart couldn't pick him for me.

It would be great. I'd like to see that :D

We did it guys! This is the first Featured Game Mode of the Year! It's happening. Nemesis Draft.

I like the idea that everyone has a self ban. For instance, even though I know he's good, I am utter shit with Zed. One suggestion I have is to keep people's bans hidden from the opponents. That way, if someone bans a champ for themselves, the opponent can't just see who it is and pick someone that is similar to that champ. That would turn it from playing champs that are "bad"/underplayed, into a situation where you pick champs your opponent is bad with. This would only apply if there was no trading.

Only if I get Urgod.

Only on howling abyss IMO.

I think it'd be interesting. almost as though it was a mix of ARAM and draft mode. The only potential issue I can see would be the potential for picks to incite quite a bit of rage, maybe even on both sides. Your teammates might blame it on you if you're the one who picked the champion for the one guy who's snowballing right now, or players might declare a game unwinnable from the start after discovering their opponents had set them up with a full team of squishy physical damage-dealers. (which would be a pretty good strategy, I imagine; give them a team of ADCs without any good sources of magical damage, then start building Thornmails on whatever you got stuck with.) There'd be some potential for some really fun, tricky drafts, though. After seeing your opponents pick the third ADC in a row for your team, it might be a good time to find out what ADCs are left in your team's champion pool, and then pick those for your opponents, forcing them to give you something else. Maybe setting up a tic-tac-toe scenario, trying to force your opponents into giving you winning picks; give them rock and paper when they gave you scissors, so whatever they pick for you next will be able to match up against at least one of their lanes.

It might make for a fun temporary mode, for sure. I think it'd start to develop an unbalanced meta and begin to lose a lot of its fun after only a short while, so leaving it around could drag it down very quickly.

I really like this idea. Make it so each player picks two champs so each team has a pool of 10 champs to pick from

I would first point out that this would likely be meta breaking. That being said I would play it in a heart beat and think it would lead to some hilariously good times. There is no incentive to pick a meta team composition, or to even follow the meta in this game mode so you are going to see compositions with no synergy, terrible laning, no jungle ability, no tanks, no carries, so on and so forth.

I think it would be an amazing bit of fun and hope to see this or something like it at some point.

Regards,

Basic

Here's the funny thing. Your team and the opposing team might pick the lowest-tier champions or champions who are rarely seen, and that will be really fun.

I can imagine wacky teams like

Gangplank Poppy Anivia MissFortune Zyra vs Taric Kayle Zilean TwistedFate Shen

Yrutan1/9/2015, 10:11:24 PM1 votes

I tried to do that once when we were 8 friends trying to play together. We ended up doing a 4v4 and Poppy was never that good.

It would make a great game mode for a week before rotating to the next game mode because rotating game mode each week will be a thing right ?

Good Idea (not)! ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ

That would be stupid. Everyone would be like: "Pick Evelynn ! Pick Taric ! Pick Anivia !"

Basically pick all the champions that no one plays and hates

if u reverse draft doesnt it just stay the same but last pick is first pick?

Grouchy Poro1/15/2015, 10:13:27 PM1 votes

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

http://www.surrenderat20.net/2015/01/115-pbe-update.html

It's happening baby, me and whoever I was talking with called it.

blueberrypancake1/18/2015, 11:26:16 PM1 votes

There is Nemesis draft in PBE right now chances for you are looking good

Par Xżi1/20/2015, 8:30:29 AM1 votes

Well, congrats bro. I just hope they can pick champions you don't own cause im pretty bored of playing the champions I have and cant decide who to get next.

PL551/8/2015, 10:41:59 PM1 votes

Not exactly related to your idea but this came up when I was reading the title. What if in draft pick the captain bans the champions, but the picking starts from the bottom?

TonyTonyMordecai1/9/2015, 2:07:47 AM1 votes

I did indeed see this before, but I still would like to see this :D Riot I hope you see this gamemode idea soon

Sukishoo1/9/2015, 2:09:27 AM1 votes

I'd love to see this. They had a mode of the day like this on SMITE called Inverted Pick, and this was exactly what it did.
