Will there ever be any new map / game mode?

First off I'd like to say that I LOVE Summoners Rift. However, I think it would be exciting to see more of Runeterra. Especially after watching the Azir release trailer. I remember when Riot was developing Magma Chambers but ultimately scrapped it because it clashed with Summoners Rift. That was a sad day. :(

Many newer MOBA's have been trying out creative new ideas and it's got me thinking. Why does every new map have to follow the same cookie cutter style of play? Destroy towers and then the nexus. (Dominion Excluded). Personally I think capture the flag would be an awesome game mode for a MOBA.

In the past Riot has expressed concern over player fragmenting, well with 70 million players how serious can that be? Summoners Rift will likely stay the "E-Sports" battleground for years to come but that doesn't mean we can't have maps for fun right?

There's zero emphasis on farming or map control on ARAM. There's no ganking pressure, there's no ward games. It basically takes the boring parts of SR, throws them out the window and condenses the gameplay into one perpetual team fight. If it was anything like actual SR I wouldn't play it.

Anyway, Riot has little by little eliminated support for their existing alternate maps. ARAM receives one change every six months if it's lucky, Dominion is on life support, TT is starting to feel the negative impact of game-wide changes while Riot sits by and ignores the issues (despite the map having ranked). So what makes you think that adding more maps is a good idea or something they would even be considering?

Well I agree with FDru, it is true that Riot rarely fixes their other maps, though on the topic of new maps and modes I had actually suggested a PVE type Story-line mode over the entire Valoran only 3 hours before you posted this http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/summoners-rift/dg0zjLPp-story-of-valoran which with the expansive tidbits of lore all around you could develop into 22 different campaigns of varying size, difficulty, and each would look different. one moment you could be in bilgewater next treading through the void slaying creatures of the dark.

Apparently 1v1 (Magma Chamber) wasn't as popular as they hoped.

URF got a really strong response, but it was hilariously broken and I think that if people got it back as a regular and/or Ranked queue they'd get bored with it in a few weeks. Or they'd have to invest a ton of resources in completely rebalancing the entire game around that -- at that point you might as well make a different game geared around having much faster gameplay.

They did have Ascension, which was an interesting twist on Dominion.

A CTF-like mode could be interesting, but would probably be hard to balance.

that's been my thought any time the "splitting playerbase" argument comes up. LoL is one of if not the most popular online game. even if other modes do take some from SR, there are still millions playing it. LoL is still LoL whether it's Summoner's Rift or Dominion, or some new mode. Players are players. I don't see why Riot is against more diversity in maps and modes. I can get not wanting to split a current mode, like adding a no surrender mode as I've seen suggested here a few too many times, but when the modes are completely different, you have a chance of bringing in people that wouldn't normally play. I have come to dislike classic SR, but I still enjoy dominion especially and Treeline with some friends. If LoL was only SR, I'd probably not play it at all anymore. If there was more emphasis on the other modes, and maybe some new ones, I would guess the overall playerbase would grow, even if some people stop playing SR (not that those people leaving will majorly impact the map anyway).

The only reason I'm against any new modes, even temporary ones, is that the current non-SR maps already get so little attention, and any more modes will just take even more away from them (you know they won't take any attention from SR, not that they necessarily should though. hire more people perhaps?). New permanent modes will end up unbalanced and in need of attention that they will probably never receive (ranked dom "ready" from the start).

Capture the flag? I don't normally do this, but it would work DrMundo With 6 item 3083 lol, if only there was gold for it :D

What I would kind of like to see is a map similar to SR, but instead of destroying towers, you pretty much take them over similar to Azir's passive. There would of course be some proper map setup needed to make this a fun and interesting mode. Like if they make a map to big for this, it would incourage snowballing to such a huge extent it would be impossible to recover from.

Would need alot of fine tuning, but this might be a cool mode if done right.
